ARM has just unveiled its next-generation CPU cores ahead of the next generation of flagship chipsets. Therefore, chipmakers like Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek will have plenty of time to adapt and bring new technology to new chipsets. The new CPU cores are a refinement of ARM v9.2 design, and unsurprisingly, are focused on AI. One of the big changes comes in the form of a new Cortex-X925 big core for flagships. It stands as the successor to the current Cortex-X4. There are more improvements and we will cover them in this article.
ARM v9.2 Cores Bring Enhancements to Performance and Efficiency Pushed by 3nm architecture
The upgrades to the big and little cores are rather obvious at this point. However, the new cluster features a performance boost that embraces the optimal performance from 3nm architecture from TSMC’s FinFET and Samsung’s GAA.

When it comes to the core, the new ARM Cortex-X925 is the successor to the Cortex-X4 and changes the nomenclature to keep in sync with the rest of ARM’s lineup. The new core promises 15% higher IPC performance. The move to a 3nm process and the higher 3.6 GHz clock brings another 36% performance increment. The AI Performance is 46% faster compared to the ARM Cortex-X4. That performance boost certainly makes the 2025 flagships way more powerful for AI.
Down in the ladder, we have the new ARM Cortex-A725, which stands as a performance core but is more energy-efficient than the Cortex-X925. It is 25% more efficient than the A720, and the move to a 3nm process provides a higher performance at a lower power draw. The chipset also includes a bigger L2 cache memory. Finally, we have the ARM Cortex-A520, which is essentially the same as the A510. It also moves to the 3nm process, which reduces the power consumption even further.
The new ARMv9.2 cores are coming with the next flagship chipsets from Samsung, MediaTek, and Qualcomm. We can easily guess their presence on the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Dimensity 9400, and Samsung’s next chipset, presumably Exynos 2500.
