Oppo Reno12

Oppo is gearing up for the global launch of its Reno12 smartphone series this month, as evidenced by early listings appearing online. These listings offer valuable insights into the specifications of the global variants. Hinting at some key differences compared to their Chinese counterparts.

The information comes from a Geekbench listing for the global Reno12 Pro (model number CPH2629). This listing suggests a switch in the central processing unit (CPU) from the Dimensity 9200+ found in the Chinese model to the Dimensity 7300 for the global market. The Dimensity 7300 boasts a configuration of four cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and four additional cores at 2.0 GHz, paired with a Mali-G615 graphics processing unit (GPU). The listing further indicates that the global Reno12 Pro will pack a generous 12GB of RAM and run on the latest Android 14 operating system.

Additional details gleaned from specification sheets reveal further discrepancies between the Chinese and global iterations of the Reno12 series. The global Reno12 Pro, as previously mentioned, adopts the Dimensity 7300 SoC. Deviating from the more powerful Dimensity 9200+ present in the Chinese model. This change could potentially impact overall processing performance.

The camera systems also exhibit variations. The global Reno12 Pro is equipped with a 50-megapixel (MP) Sony IMX882 (LYT-600) primary sensor. While the Chinese variant boasts a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor. While both sensors offer high resolution, the IMX890 is generally considered to have superior low-light performance.

The standard Reno12 also follows suit with a chipset swap. Opting for the Dimensity 7300 over the Dimensity 8250 featured in the Chinese version. The global Reno12 ditches the triple 50MP + 8MP + 50MP camera configuration found in China for a more modest 50MP + 8MP + 2MP setup.

These alterations in hardware specifications suggest a potential strategic move by Oppo to cater to different market demands and price points. Opting for the Dimensity 7300 series in the global variants could translate to a more competitive price tag. While potentially making slight sacrifices in raw processing power compared to the Chinese models. Similarly, adjustments to the camera systems might prioritize affordability while still offering capable photographic capabilities.

With the official launch imminent, it will be interesting to see the confirmed specifications and pricing details for the global Reno12 series. These revelations will shed light on Oppo’s strategy in tailoring its offerings to cater to a wider international audience.
