AAA Games on Newer iPhone and iPad Models Aren’t Doing As Great As Expected

Apple might have hoped high-quality titles (called AAA games) would be a big hit on iPhones and iPads. However, recent reports show that these games may not be as popular as expected.

Games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil Village were supposed to show off how powerful the new iPhone 15 Pro is. But the numbers aren’t great. Many people downloaded these games, but very few paid to play the full version. For example, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, an AAA game that’s popular on other platforms, has over 123,000 downloads, but less than 3,000 people paid the $49 price.

What Could Be Making Less iPhone and iPad Users Play AAA Games?

Experts say most people prefer simpler, more casual games on their phones. Mobile games are popular for fun art styles and easy-to-learn controls. Think about it: playing a complicated game with lots of buttons on a small phone screen isn’t exactly ideal. Plus, most AAA games are enjoyable when you play them with a controller on a big TV, not on a tiny phone.

Another problem is that only the most expensive iPhones (the iPhone 15 Pro models) can run these games. Only iPads with special chips can play them too. This means a lot of iPhone and iPad users can’t even try these fancy AAA games.

Some people think Apple might have paid game companies to make these games for iPhones just to show off their new phones. Even if not many people play the games themselves, they make the phone look super powerful.

So, are AAA games not good for iPhones? It’s not clear yet. But one thing is for sure: if you want people to play games on their phones, you need to make games that are designed for phones. They cannot be just shrunk-down versions of big console games.
