While smartphone OEMs have evolved to make their smartphones more durable in the past years, we can’t deny their fragility against certain odds. In extreme environments this fragility becomes evident, and the need for durable smartphones gave life to the rugged smartphones. Although rugged smartphones traditionally have a bulky design to withstand tough conditions, some brands found the balance between look and ruggedness. Motorola is now teasing the world’s slimmest “military grade phone” to give rugged smartphone buyers something closer to conventional smartphones. The device in question will be the thinnest handset with MIL-STD-810 certification.
Motorola’s Slimmest Military-Grade Smartphone Could Be The Motorola Edge 50 Neo
The device’s identity remains unclear, but some speculate it could be the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. This device has been leaking recently and will be the successor to the Edge 40 Neo launched last September. It will allegedly come with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of Internal Storage or 12 GB of RAM with 512 GB of Internal Storage.

Additionally, the new smartphone reportedly features a 6.5-inch 120Hz pOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It will feature a triple rear camera system with a main 50 MP camera, 13 MP ultrawide, and a 10 MP telephoto camera. The selfie shooter will be a 32 MP unit. The phone will draw its power from a huge 4,310 mAh battery. It will be 8.1 mm thick and will weigh 171 grams. The device will sell in four colorways: Nautical Blue, Latte, Grisaille, and Poinciana.
Motorola’s rugged smartphone will be offered by Flipkart and will be protected against accidental drops, shakes, extreme heat, cold, and humidity. Currently, it’s unconfirmed whether this is the Motorola Edge 40 Neo or another smartphone with MIL-STD-810 certification. Anyway, it would be nice if the rumors turned out to be true. After all, a conventional smartphone with a slim profile getting this certification would be an interesting feat from Motorola. We expect more details to emerge in the coming days.
