Google Messages Adds useful Snapchat feature

Google Messages – according to AA–  is rolling out a new feature, adding Snapchat-style face filters to its photo and video messaging capabilities. This exciting addition was first uncovered earlier this month and has now started to appear for some users. The feature is accessible via the in-app camera interface, where an icon to the left of the camera shutter button allows users to select from a variety of filters. Note however that this isn’t a widespread release right now, so you’ll have to wait a little longer if you’re not seeing it yet.

New Filter Options

The initial rollout includes nine distinct filter options. Among these are playful choices like a bunny, a dinosaur, basic touch-up effects, and various hats. These filters enhance the messaging experience by adding a fun and creative touch to photos and videos. This functionality aligns with a previous teardown of the app, confirming the presence of these features.

Limited Availability

At present, the face filters are not yet available to all users. The rollout appears to be in its early stages, and some, including those using the Google Messages beta app via the Play Store, may not see the update immediately. It’s expected that the feature will become more widely available in the coming weeks.

More Features on the Horizon

This is not the only update coming to Google Messages. There is evidence that Google is planning to introduce the ability to send uncompressed images via RCS (Rich Communication Services). This would allow Google Messages to catch up with Samsung Messages in terms of image quality, providing a significant improvement for users who share photos and videos frequently.
