October Showdown: Dimensity 9400 Sets Stage for Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8

With the final quarter of 2024 nearing the shores, we are expecting the chipmakers to make their grand announcements for the next generation of flagship chipsets. With the launch of such chipsets, we will see a race between smartphone makers to see which one will be the first to launch new flagships. According to a new report from tipster Digital Chat Station, we will likely see MediaTek appearing first with its new Dimensity 9400 chipset. Vivo and Oppo will then launch their new Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 series, featuring the new chipset. They will launch ahead of the Xiaomi 15 series, which is set to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.

Qualcomm typically releases its flagship SoC first, with MediaTek following about a month later. However, if the leak is accurate, then MediaTek will take the edge this year along with the new phones featuring the chipset.

Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 series launching in October with Dimensity 9400

According to the tipster, the Vivo X200 series and the Oppo Find X8 series will arrive in October. There aren’t many details available about the Oppo Find X8 series. The Vivo X200 series, on the other hand, has been leaking a lot in the past weeks. The launch could introduce three models, the Vivo X200 Mini (tentative name), Vivo X200, and X200 Pro. Moreover, we might see a Lite and Ultra variant launching later. The first three devices will feature the Dimensity 9400.

Considering the leak, we might see MediaTek launching its new flagship SoC early in October. After all, Qualcomm will unveil its Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 later on October 21. The Dimensity 9400 will be impressive with ARM’s latest cores, including the new Cortex X925 performance cores. Qualcomm, on the other hand, is shifting away from its long-favored ARM cores this year. It will move on to its in-house Oryon CPU cores, and we are curious to see the results.

Gizchina News of the week

Dimensity 9400 First Details

A report from earlier this week reveals the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 offers a 30% increase in single-core performance over its predecessor. On paper, while the Dimensity 9300 scores around 2,207 points in Geekbench’s single-core tests, the Dimensity 9400 could reach about 2,870 points which is impressive. Interestingly, the leaked benchmarks for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 suggest a similar single-core performance with 2,884 points. We will see close competition in the flagship range.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is also rumored to be highly efficient. Last year, we saw MediaTek taking the risky route of launching a chipset that had only performance cores. However, that turned out to be quite positive as the company found the balance between performance and efficiency. This year, we expect the company to keep up this strategy and bring refinements in energy consumption. The Dimensity 9400, for instance, is said to consume 30% less power than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in similar tasks. In addition to that, the Dimensity 9400 will be the first chip to use Samsung’s lightning-fast 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5x memory. It’s the fastest in the industry.

MediaTek To Gain Advantage Over Qualcomm

With the launch of the Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 series with Dimensity 9400 SoC, we will see MediaTek getting some spotlight before Qualcomm. If the processor lives up to its efficiency and performance claims, we might see more smartphone brands jumping on MediaTek’s bandwagon. The Dimensity 9000-series chips certainly proved their value these years. However, the Snapdragon 8 series is still favored by OEMs and by consumers in general. We are curious to see if there will be changes in this landscape with the next generation. Especially, with Qualcomm taking an alternative route with its Oryon chips.

Vivo and Oppo will likely be followed by Xiaomi with its Xiaomi 15 series. These devices, on the other hand, are expected to use Qualcomm’s flagship SoC.
