Xiaomi’s presence in the smartphone market doesn’t need any description. The company has been quite popular among buyers who don’t want to spend too much to get great features. But it seems that the company may be readying up to stop relying on others to for phone processors. That is, the first Xiaomi smartphone SoC could be on the way.
This development marks a significant step for the company. So far, it relied on external chipsets from Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Unisoc. But if it produces in-house SoC, Xiaomi could go through the same route as Google and Huawei.
According to recent reports, Xiaomi has partnered with Unisoc to co-develop a 4 nm chipset. The first fruit of this collaboration is expected to break covers early next year. This in-house SoC could power future Xiaomi smartphones. It could offer the company greater control over its product ecosystem.
More About the In-house Xiaomi Smartphone SoC
Xiaomi’s upcoming in-house SoC is reportedly being manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 4nm N4P process. This cutting-edge technology will enable the chip to deliver impressive performance and energy efficiency.

Furthermore, the SoC will incorporate a 5G modem developed by Unisoc. This strategic partnership with Unisoc underscores Xiaomi’s commitment to developing a comprehensive mobile platform.
As for the performance, Xiaomi’s in-house SoC will reportedly match the capabilities of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This flagship chipset powered high-end smartphones in 2021 and 2022. While it’s still a good SoC, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be much more powerful. As a matter of fact, the 8 Gen 3 already offers great improvements. So, if this holds true, Xiaomi’s in-house SoC may not be current flagship-grade.
Worth noting that this is not Xiaomi’s first foray into in-house chip development. The company’s previous attempt, the Surge S1, was a mid-range SoC launched in 2017. But still, if the in-house Xiaomi SoC can offer performance similar to the 8 Gen 1, it would be a great achievement for the company.
