HONOR Apologizes to Samsung Fold Owners with Unique Art

Honor Magic V3

HONOR, a top brand known for smart gadgets, has made a bold move by issuing a unique apology to owners of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. As HONOR gears up for the global launch of its new foldable smartphone, the HONOR Magic V3, it took an unusual step to address the concerns of those who chose Samsung’s larger foldable device. The HONOR Magic V3 stands out as the world’s slimmest inward-foldable phone. It measures just 4.35mm when opened, 9.2mm when folded, and weighs only 226 grams. With these specs, HONOR acknowledges that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold owners might feel a sense of regret for choosing a bulkier option before the HONOR Magic V3 hit the market. This is the reason for the apology.

A Tiny Apology on an Even Tinier Hinge

HONOR has engraved a 166-word apology on the 2.84mm HONOR Super Steel hinge of the Magic V3. This feat blends the brand’s high-tech innovation with an ancient art form. The task was brought to life by Graham Short, a 78-year-old UK-based micro-artist known as the “Hands of a Genius.” His skill is so refined that his work can only be seen with a microscope.

Graham Short, known for his focus and skill, worked with HONOR to engrave the apology. He is famous for crafting art so small and detailed that it requires absolute precision. Short’s dedication to his craft is so intense that he works between his heartbeats to achieve the needed accuracy. His works are rare, with only four pieces made each year, catching the eye of stars like Elton John and Kim Kardashian.

“The HONOR Magic V3 presented a unique challenge, with its incredibly thin, rounded edges making even microscopic engraving difficult,” Graham explained. “However, I never shy away from a challenge. Despite the Magic V3 being the world’s thinnest foldable, I was able to engrave the hinge of the phone with HONOR’s lengthy 166-word apology. It wasn’t just the thinness which put me to the test, as the surprisingly durable metal required the use of diamond-tipped pins for the engraving.”

A Labor of Love: 90 Hours of Engraving

Engraving the apology on the hinge of the HONOR Magic V3 was an intricate undertaking. It required Graham Short an impressive 90 hours to meticulously complete the task by hand. HONOR’s distinctive gesture demonstrates its dedication to innovation and sophistication. This engraving commemorates the introduction of the HONOR Magic V3. It also illustrates how artistry and technology can harmonize to create something exceptionally extraordinary.

The full, 166-word apology reads:

Dear Samsung Galaxy Z Fold owners, we’re sorry. We know you were excited to buy a phone that folds in half and fits in your pocket, awkwardly. You were promised the future, a technical marvel, a world of boundless multitasking and performance. And now, you’re probably looking at the new HONOR Magic V3 and feeling a little… betrayed. Size matters, and we feel your pain. Like being tipped for a gold medal and then coming last in the race, the knowledge that a thinner, lighter, and more durable foldable exists is enough to make anyone question their choices. We get it. You were an early adopter, a pioneer bravely venturing into the uncharted territory of foldable screens with questionable durability. You deserve better. In fact, you deserve a gold medal.
In all seriousness, we at HONOR are committed to pushing the boundaries of technology and bringing you the best possible foldable experience. We’re just saying… it’s okay to feel let down. We’d feel the same way.
