Vivo has just unveiled a new budget smartphone in China under its Y-series of smartphones. The new device is dubbed Vivo Y36c and carries an interesting price of CNY 899. It is just about $126 in direct conversion and brings the intermediary MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC. The phone sells in three different color variants – Moon Shadow Black, Distant Mountain Green, and Diamond Purple.

As usual, Vivo cut some corners in this smartphone to make the price attractive. For instance, it has the traditional budget design with a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. There is also a thick chin when compared to the side bezels. The phone, however, has a flat design for the frame which is a recurring trend in the industry that is gaining ground once again. The back of the phone has a rectangular cutout for the two camera holes. As per the specs sheet, the phone has 8.53 overall thickness and weighs just 185 grams.

Speaking of the cameras, the Vivo Y36c comes with a 50 MP main camera on the back, there is no mention of the second snapper but we believe it’s a simple depth sensor. The front-facing camera is a modest 5 MP shooter for selfies and video calls. The phone’s display is a 6.56-inch 90 Hz LCD unit with a peak brightness of 840 nits. It also comes with low blue light eye protection certification.
Under the hood, the device carries the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset which is a mid-range offering with 6nm architecture. It has 2 x ARM Cortex-A76 cores at 2.4 GHz and 6 x ARM Cortex-A55 cores at 2 GHz. The GPU is a Mali-G57 MC2. It’s a CPU with moderate performance, but enough for playing casual games and everyday app usage. The phone draws power from a 5,000 mAh battery. It also comes with an IP54 dust and water resistance rating.
