New Google Play Store Update Allows You to Update and Install Apps Faster

This past weekend, it was reported that the Google Play Store now allows Android users to install or update up to three apps and games simultaneously. However, upon further investigation, it seems that the Play Store can actually handle up to four concurrent installations or updates.

This finding occurred while installing apps and games on an iQOO Z9s Pro in India. The folks on GSMArena discovered that, with Google Play Store version 42.4.22-31[0][PR]663941805 it was possible to handle 4 apps installs. With over a dozen apps and games queued for installation, the Play Store was able to download up to four apps at once. The remaining apps, however, displayed the regular “Pending” status.

This functionality is applicable to both new app installations and updates for existing apps and games.

While this sounds really exciting for users that tend to configure smartphones often, it is not widely available. It seems that Google is rolling the update server-side in a selective way.So far, mos Android devices in India still only support up to three concurrent app or game downloads. It remains uncertain whether Google will expand the capability to allow four simultaneous downloads across all devices or maintain the current limit. Interestingly, it falls in line with the App Store’s download capacity for iOS users.

This change may not significantly impact Android users who have automatic app updates enabled in the Play Storeā€”settings that are turned on by defaultā€”or those on slower networks or using devices with slower storage. However, users who frequently manually update apps or set up new devices could find this feature particularly beneficial. If you’re a custom ROM installer like me, you will probably find a great advantage in this new feature.

We will keep following the matter to see if Google will expand support for this. It’s an interesting addition that makes the process of installing apps and configuring new devices much faster.
