Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to debut soon. The new console is the successor to the popular Nintendo Switch. While there’s no official release date, it’s likely to be announced before the end of March 2025. So far, there have been many reports about the new gaming handheld.

Many sources have hinted at an upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 announcement. Industry insiders Christopher Dring and Andy Robinso also mentioned rumors about the new console.

A September presentation seems likely. It aligns with Nintendo’s past tradition of focusing on first-party titles in a dedicated Direct event. This follows the recent showcase of third-party games in August.

Insider Has Also Suggested that Nintendo Switch 2 Will be Backward Compatible

Analyst David Gibson believes a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement is imminent. He cited increased production activity by Hosiden, a key assembly partner. The analyst predicts the announcement could happen between September 18 and 26. This would be ahead of the Tokyo Game Show.

Furthermore, industry insider Nate The Hate has claimed that Switch 2 will be backward compatible. That means games of the original Switch will work on the new gaming handheld. This might seem logical, but it’s a feature that has been uncertain. After all, the current-gen handheld isn’t backward compatible. It can’t play the games from the previous Nintendo consoles.

Moreover, recent reports have suggested that the Nintendo Switch 2 will get many AAA titles at launch. This would be a key change from the current-gen gaming handheld. It didn’t have many games at launch, which was a bummer.

Steam Deck on nintendo switch

As for the hardware, previous reports have suggested good upgrades. One notable report hinted that it would be comparable to the Steam Deck. This wouldn’t make the Switch 2 as capable as the other handhelds like the ROG Ally X. However, the current-gen Nintendo handheld has hardware that dates back to 2015. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a little dated hardware in the newer console.
