Apple Watch Ultra 2 vs Series 10: Why Ultra 2 Takes the Crown

The Apple Watch Series 10 might be a substantial improvement over its predecessor. However, it still doesn’t quite match up to the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Perhaps that’s why Apple only introduced a new color option this year. Let’s delve into what sets the Ultra 2 apart and why it’s a superior choice.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 Has a Better and More Durable Design

The Apple Watch Series 10 boasts a slightly larger screen and a thinner case, but the Ultra 2 still reigns supreme in terms of design. The Ultra 2’s titanium case and flat sapphire-covered screen have proven to be incredibly durable, even after enduring rigorous use. The satin black Ultra 2 is particularly anticipated for its sleek appearance and orange accents.

If you’re considering the aluminum version of the Series 10, be aware of potential durability issues. Past experience with Apple Watch models indicates that lower-end variants, such as those with Ion-X glass and aluminum cases, are more prone to scratches. Even with careful handling, these materials can develop scratches and scuffs. The Jet Black Series 10, with its polished aluminum finish, may be even more susceptible to scratches.

More Reliable Battery Life

Battery life is a crucial aspect of any smartwatch, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 continues to excel in this area. Despite the Series 10’s new design and improved processor, Apple estimates its battery life at up to 18 hours under normal use and up to 36 hours in Low Power Mode.

However, the Ultra 2 remains the undisputed battery champion. Apple claims it can last for up to 36 hours on a single charge and extend that to 72 hours in Low Power Mode. In my experience, these estimates are conservative, as I’ve been able to use my Ultra 2 for around four days without needing a recharge under normal usage. If battery life is a priority, the Ultra 2 is the clear winner.

Watch Ultra 2 Has Action Button

Another exclusive feature that enhances the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is the Action button. Similar to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, the Action button on the Ultra 2 is user-friendly and customizable.

It is undoubtedly one of the Ultra 2’s most appealing features. You can use the Action button to initiate various actions, such as starting a workout, activating the watch’s flashlight, or even executing a Shortcut that controls the car’s ambient lighting system. The ability to perform different tasks without relying on Siri or navigating through the watchOS menus is a significant time-saver.

Improved Water Resistance

The Series 10 has adopted some features from the Ultra 2, including a water temperature sensor and access to the Depth app, which automatically activates when the Apple Watch is submerged.

However, the Series 10 does not match the Ultra 2’s water resistance capabilities. The Series 10 is water-resistant up to 50 meters, whereas the Ultra 2 can withstand depths of up to 100 meters. Additionally, the depth gauge on the Series 10 is limited to 6 meters, while the Ultra 2’s depth gauge can measure up to 40 meters. The Ultra 2 is also suitable for recreational scuba diving and other high-speed water sports.
