The conflict began in April 2024 when Brazil’s Chief Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, ordered the removal of over 100 social media accounts. These accounts were accused of spreading false claims about the 2022 presidential election, in which Jair Bolsonaro lost. Musk initially refused to follow the order, arguing that freedom of expression should be upheld. As a result, X was briefly suspended in Brazil, affecting around 20 million users.
