A recent test has revealed that the new iOS 18 update brings a surprising increase in battery life for iPhone 15 Pro models. This test, done by a well-known Chinese blogger, Geekerwan, shows how real-world usage has been greatly improved with the software update. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, in particular, shows an impressive gain, running for more than an hour longer compared to iOS 17.

Test Results: iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max

The testing involves various activities to ascertain how the battery will perform. These included messaging, web browsing, video calls, and gaming. The iPhone 15 Pro saw its battery life increase from 6 hours and 22 minutes to 6 hours and 55 minutes with iOS 18. The bigger surprise, though, came with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which jumped from 7 hours and 56 minutes to a huge 9 hours and 2 minutes.

The main cause of this battery boost appears to relate to how iOS 18 manages the A17 Pro chip. This new system seems to control the chip’s performance and efficiency cores better, delaying the rise in core speed and, in turn, saving power during shorter tasks. Before now, there were hints from Apple regarding “extended energy management” in iOS 18. However, the company did not give any specific details at the official launch.

The test also looked at the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max, which now holds the record with a battery life of 10 hours and 23 minutes. No iPhone has ever lasted this long in such tests. Other models in the iPhone 16 lineup also performed well, with the 16 Plus reaching 10 hours and the 16 Pro getting about 8.5 hours. These gains are partly due to the larger batteries in the iPhone 16 family.

While these tests do not perfectly match real-world usage, they offer strong signs of improved battery life. For iPhone users, especially those with older models, the iOS 18 update provides a welcome improvement. While individual results will vary, the software seems to offer a notable increase in overall power efficiency, making iOS 18 a must-have update for those looking to extend their phone’s battery life.
