Apple iPhone SE 4 Tipped to Receive Big Upgrades, but They May Come at a Cost

iPhone SE 4

Apple analyst Mark Gurman has shared some new details about the iPhone SE 4. Per the latest report, the smartphone is on track for a launch in early 2025. The new model will reportedly bring significant improvements over its predecessor. That includes a modern design and powerful performance.

Apple iPhone SE 4 Will Come With Some Key Upgrades

The iPhone SE 4 is poised to break from its predecessor’s design mold. While the current model features a traditional home button, rumors suggest that the next iteration will adopt a modern edge-to-edge display similar to the iPhone 14. This design change will likely contribute to a larger screen, enhancing the overall user experience.

With the removal of the home button, the iPhone SE 4 will feature the Face ID for biometric authentication. This feature, which has been a staple of the iPhone lineup since the iPhone X, allows users to unlock their smartphone and authenticate apps with a simple glance. It’s a significant upgrade that brings the iPhone SE series in line with the rest of Apple’s smartphone offerings.

Mark Gurman further reports that the iPhone SE 4 will receive a substantial performance boost. It will happen thanks to the inclusion of Apple’s latest A18 chipset. This powerful processor, typically found in the previous year’s flagship iPhones, will enable the new SE to deliver top-tier performance for various tasks.

However, this upgrade may come at a cost. The analysts predict a significant price increase compared to the current model. For reference, the current-gen iPhone SE starts at $429. So, if Apple does increase the price of the next smartphone, we could see it hit $500 mark. The upper tier configurations can even exceed the $500 range. With that, the difference between the iPhone 14 and the new SE would narrow down in terms of price. If you’re wondering, Apple currently sells the iPhone 14 at $599.

About the New iPad Air

In addition to the iPhone SE 4, Gurman also sheds light on Apple’s plans for the iPad lineup. New 11– and 13-inch versions of the iPad Air are expected to launch alongside the iPhone SE 4, featuring internal improvements. While the exact nature of these upgrades remains unclear, Apple recently introduced an M2-powered iPad Air with a larger screen and a relocated camera.

To complement the new iPads, Apple is reportedly developing new Magic Keyboards specifically designed for the 11- and 13-inch models. Furthermore, a refreshed iPad Mini is anticipated to arrive before the end of 2024.

Beyond these updates, Apple is expected to unveil several other products in the coming months. That includes new M4-powered MacBook Pros, Mac Minis, and iMacs. An upgraded Apple TV 4K and potentially the iPad 11 or iPad Mini 7 are also on the horizon.
