How Netflix’s Ad-Supported Plan Grew to 70 Million Users Globally

Netflix Ad-Supported Plan

Netflix’s ad-supported subscription plan, launched in 2022, has grown rapidly since its debut. This budget-friendly option started in a few countries and has since expanded globally. Recently, Netflix announced that 70 million users are now subscribed to this plan.

Netflix’s Ad-Supported Plan Hits 70 Million Subscribers Worldwide

The growth of Netflix’s ad-supported plan has been impressive. In January 2024, the plan had 22 million users. By May, this number increased to 40 million. Now, just a few months later, it has reached 70 million subscribers. The surge shows strong demand for a cheaper Netflix option.

Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s Vice President of Advertising, noted that interest in the ad-supported plan is increasing everywhere. She stated, “Over 50% of new Netflix signups in countries with this option are choosing the ad-supported plan.” This means that half of Netflix’s new users in these regions prefer the lower-cost option with ads over the pricier ad-free plans.

A Popular, Budget-Friendly Option

The popularity of the ad-supported plan shows that many people want a cheaper way to watch Netflix. This plan offers the same movies and shows as the standard options but includes some ads. It is perfect for users who are willing to watch a few commercials in exchange for paying less each month.

Netflix currently offers three subscription tiers: a basic plan, a standard plan, and a premium plan. The ad-supported plan is usually the most affordable. However, it is not yet available everywhere. Netflix is slowly rolling it out to new countries but has not announced exact dates for some regions.

What’s Next for Netflix?

The growing popularity of the ad-supported plan suggests a shift in what users want. Many people seem to prefer paying less, even if it means watching a few ads. With more subscribers joining every month, this plan’s user base is expected to grow further.
