Nvidia might soon shake up the consumer processor market with a rumored ARM-based chip aimed at high-efficiency gaming.
According to past reports, Nvidia is reportedly gearing up to launch an ARM-based processor for the consumer market. It’s rumored to be developed with MediaTek, and the expected launch is sometime in 2025. YouTuber Moore’s Law previously reported that the company already has a deal with Alienware. Now, this Nvidia APU reported to be capable of offering the same level of performance as the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU in gaming.
More specifically, the YouTuber says that the gaming performance will be comparable to that of an Nvidia RTX 4070 Laptop GPU running at 65W. Worth noting that Moore’s Law Is Dead previously shared that the targeted power consumption is at most 80W. This suggests that efficiency is a priority for this ARM-based APU.
The Nvidia APU Won’t Only Be About Gaming
Beyond gaming, the rumored Nvidia consumer-grade processor is said to be positioned as a direct competitor to the AMD Strix Halo APUs. This next-gen processor lineup from AMD will reportedly feature up to an RDNA 3.5 iGPU with 40 CUs.
For reference, the current top-end iGPU in the Strix Point series, the Radeon 890M, has 16 CUs. In benchmarks, this RDNA 3.5 iGPU was close to the Nvidia RTX 500 Ada Laptop GPU in gaming. With up to 40 CUs, the upcoming top-end iGPU of Strix Halo could deliver comparable, if not better, gaming performance to the RTX 4060 and Radeon RX 7600.
Citing unnamed sources, Moore’s Law Is Dead also reports that the consumer Nvidia APU will feature an NPU. This is expected to bring on-device AI smarts. That will also make it stand as a proper competitor to the Snapdragon X series as well. Still, these are all rumors. So, you should take them with a good amount of salt.
