Samsung is rolling out big changes with its upcoming One UI 7 update, based on Android 15. One of the major tweaks will be to the Camera app, which will see a cleaner, less cluttered interface. Samsung has confirmed that features related to AR (Augmented Reality), which were previously integrated into the Camera app, will now become separate apps.
AR Zone and Deco Pic Become Standalone Apps
In One UI 6.1 and earlier, users could access AR features like AR Doodle, AR Emoji Camera, AR Emoji Studio, and AR Stickers within the Camera app under the AR Zone section. Along with these, Deco Pic and Quick Measure were also available in the Camera app. However, with One UI 7, Samsung will remove all these AR tools from the Camera app. Instead, they will be available as standalone apps that users can download from the Galaxy Store. This change is intended to reduce clutter in the Camera app and allow users to have more control over which AR features they want on their phones.
Another significant change is the renaming of AR Emoji. This feature first hit the market with the Galaxy S9 in 2018 to rival Apple’s Animoji and it now goes by the name Galaxy Avatar. The shift aligns with Samsung’s approach to refresh its user interface and branding. This move is part of a broader redesign in One UI 7, which will focus on streamlining features and improving the user experience.
The new Samsung One UI 7 Camera design is part of Samsung’s efforts to make the app cleaner and more efficient for users. With fewer built-in AR features, users will likely find the app easier to navigate and faster to use. For those who still want to enjoy AR Doodle or Galaxy Avatar, the apps will be easy to find and install separately. Samsung has apologized to users for any inconvenience caused by this change. However, it emphasizes that the standalone apps will offer the same fun features, just in a more organized way.
Release Timeline for One UI 7
Samsung should roll out One UI 7 in a stable form early next year, with the Galaxy S24 likely being the first device to ship with the new interface. According to speculations, the beta version of One UI 7 will launch on November 17, giving users an early look at the changes.
