Apple has updated its vintage and obsolete products list, bringing some nostalgic devices into the spotlight. The iPhone XS Max, launched in 2018, and the iPhone 6s Plus, introduced in 2015, are now considered vintage. Additionally, all models of the Apple Watch Series 2 have been moved to the obsolete category. These updates mark the end of official support for these devices.

iPhone XS Max and iPhone 6s Plus Now Classified as Vintage

Apple iPhone XS Max

Apple’s vintage list features products that Apple discontinued over 5 years ago but less than 7 years ago. Apple no longer sells these devices, but users can still repair them if spare parts are available. Interestingly, the iPhone 6s Plus, despite being three years older than the XS Max, reached vintage status at the same time because it stayed on the market longer.

When they were first launched, both the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 6s Plus were top-tier models. The iPhone XS Max was Apple’s biggest iPhone at the time, featuring a 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED display. It also introduced Face ID and had a powerful A12 Bionic processor. This phone catered to users who wanted a large, premium device.

The iPhone 6s Plus, released in 2015, brought new features like 3D Touch, which allowed the screen to detect pressure levels for different commands. It also improved the camera system with optical image stabilization, offering better photos and videos. These devices have been replaced by newer models, but many people still remember them fondly.

Apple Watch Series 2 Moves to Obsolete List

Apple has now added the Apple Watch Series 2 to its obsolete list. Products in this category have been discontinued for over 7 years. Apple no longer provides repairs or spare parts for these devices. Launched in 2016, the Apple Watch Series 2 was a favorite for its water resistance and built-in GPS, making it popular with fitness enthusiasts. However, as technology advanced, this model has now reached the end of its service life.

What Does Vintage and Obsolete Mean?

  • Vintage Products: Devices discontinued for more than 5 years but less than 7 years. Repairs may be possible if parts are available.
  • Obsolete Products: Devices discontinued for over 7 years. Apple no longer offers repairs or spare parts.

This update shows Apple’s approach of phasing out older models and encouraging users to upgrade. As technology advances, these older devices become less practical, making room for new models with better features. If you still have one of these classic devices, it might be time to consider an upgrade. What are your thoughts on this update? Share in the comments below!
