Flagship smartphone makers are finally pushing the boundaries for battery capacity. For years, we have been seeing major players sticking with safe numbers in favor of fast-charging technology. However, it seems that we’ve finally reached the time when fast-charging technology is mature enough to offer safety even on larger batteries. We can also say that the battery in the past years, has allowed smartphone makers to fit more capacity. In the past months, we saw multiple flagships launching with batteries above 6,000 mAh. Now, it seems that Oppo wants to go beyond and reach the impressive 7,000 mAh mark. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, upcoming phones from Oppo may bring 7,000 mAh batteries.
Oppo Exploring New Battery Sizes with Silicon-Carbon Tech
Gizchina News of the week
Oppo’s current flagships, the Oppo Find X8 and X8 Pro, already surpassed the 5,000 mAh barrier, thanks to silicon-carbon battery tech. These batteries offer increased capacity while offering a compact footprint. According to DSC, Oppo will take this technology further. The company is exploring larger battery options for its next smartphones. One option features a 6,285 mAh battery, likely 6,410 mAh for marketing purposes. Another one has an impressive 6,850 mAh battery, which probably stands for 7,000 mAh.
These batteries are expected to work with Oppo’s 80W SuperVOOC wired charging technology. Unfortunately, the leak does not mention any detail about wireless charging compatibility. However, we don’t that this won’t be the case for certain flagships in the premium tier. After all, we already had some smartphones with 6,000 mAh batteries and wireless charging.
In related news, the same tipster previously reported that Xiaomi will launch a phone with a 7,000 mAh battery. This device will reportedly support 90W charging and run a Snapdragon 8s Elite or 8s Gen 4 chipset. Considering that the Snapdragon 8 Elite was unveiled last month, we probably are several months away from the launch of a new variant.
We need to digest this news with a pinch of salt. After all, neither Xiaomi nor Oppo have confirmed the information. Digital Chat Station has a good track record and stands as one of the most reliable sources for leaks in this industry. However, things can still change, and we need to wait for more consistent info.
