HDMI 2.2 to Debut at CES 2025
The HDMI 2.1 standard has been in use since its introduction at CES 2017. Now, eight years later, HDMI 2.2 is set to debut at CES 2025. The event will begin on January 7, 2025. The new standard is expected to launch alongside Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 50 series and AMD’s Radeon RX 8000 series graphics cards. Both of these products will also support DisplayPort 2.1, giving users more connectivity options.
Faster and Better Performance
Currently, HDMI 2.1 supports a maximum bandwidth of 48 Gbps, allowing for up to 120 Hz refresh rates at resolutions as high as 10240×4320 pixels. While this has been the gold standard for years, the upcoming HDMI 2.2 is set to push boundaries even further. Although specific details about the bandwidth increase have yet to be disclosed, industry insiders suggest that the 2.2 version will support significantly higher refresh rates and resolutions. This could place the 2.2 version in direct competition with DisplayPort 2.1, which currently boasts a bandwidth of 80 Gbps.
