Apple announced the iPhone 16 series and to the displeasure of many, the company kept the vanilla and models with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, Apple keeps holding technology, even when low-end smartphones under $150 are coming with a 90Hz refresh rate. It’s a pity that a $799 phone still has a 60Hz display. However, that might be changing with the next year’s iPhone 17 series. According to a new rumor, the iPhone 17, and presumably the 17 Plus, will finally receive high refresh rate displays.
All Apple 2025 iPhones v to Get High Refresh Rate
According to the reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, Apple iPhone 17 and 17 Plus will embrace the ProMotion technology. That’s a fancy name that Apple gives to its adaptive refresh rate technology that ranges between 1-120Hz. The brand is reportedly improving the display technology on vanilla and models. Considering this upgrade, the feature may now become universal across the 2025 iPhone lineup.
As per the tipster, the iPhone 17 will support a higher refresh rate. However, we still don’t know the exact refresh rate. There is no confirmation if they will get the 1-120Hz refresh rate. Apple could easily set a 90Hz cap for base models. When it comes to the competition, the 90Hz displays are a step below the 120Hz panels. We usually see this on low-end and basic mid-range smartphones. However, since Apple still is on the 60Hz, a 90Hz upgrade would still be an upgrade.
For now, it’s all leak and speculation at this point. We need to wait for further details. Since Apple does not tease details of its smartphones, we will need to wait for more concrete info from the supply chain.
iPhone 17 Air
Interestingly, while the iPhone 17 series does not come, there are rumors about a new model. Apple is working on a new iPhone 17 Air model, which entered a new production introduction phase. This model will measure just 5 to 6 mm thick. Curiously, Samsung is also preparing a variant of the Galaxy S25 to compete with this model. Unfortunately, we don’t know when this phone will launch.
We expect more details to keep coming as we’re just entering 2025 and the iPhone 17 series is expected for its usual September window.
