LG UltraGear GX9 45GX990A Arrives with a Display That Goes From Flat to Curved


LG has introduced its newest WOLED gaming monitors under the UltraGear GX9 series. The lineup includes the 45GX990A and 45GX950A models. Both feature 45-inch screens with a 5K2K resolution of 5,120 x 2,160 pixels and a 21:9 aspect ratio. These monitors boast a super-fast 0.03ms (gray-to-gray) response time. They also have support for variable refresh rates. However, LG hasn’t disclosed the details of the specific refresh rate.

One of the most notable features of the LG UltraGear GX9 45GX990A is that it can transform completely flat to 900R curves with just a button press. This flexibility is perfect for those who can’t decide between a flat or curved monitor. It offers the best of both worlds. It’s a really interesting approach that explores the technology of flexible displays. It’s innovative and we expect to see more brands adopting this shortly.

It is the world’s first 5K2K-resolution bendable OLED screen. There is also a dual mode that allows users to switch effortlessly between resolution and refresh rate presets. It’s possible to customize the aspect ratio and picture size.

On the other hand, the 45GX950A is a traditional curved monitor with an 800R curvature, and it can’t flatten. It arrives as a more cost-effective variant for those who enjoy the curved display and want to experience the latest technology from LG.

Both monitors come with Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro as well as HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity. You can also get LG’s Anti-Glare & Low Reflection (AGLR) coating and USB-C with 90W power delivery. The new monitors support LG’s Dual-Mode feature. They bring automatic aspect ratio and picture size adjustments.

Unfortunately, LG has not provided full details about these monitors. The pricing and availability are still a mystery. LG confirmed that more details about the new monitors and technology will be given at the CES 2025.
