Xiaomi’s Journey into EVs

Xiaomi was founded in 2010 and became publicly traded in Hong Kong in 2018. The company initially focused on smartphones and smart hardware. In March 2021, Xiaomi officially announced plans to enter the EV market.

The SU7, Xiaomi’s first EV, debuted on December 28, 2023. CEO Lei Jun presented the sedan and shared Xiaomi’s goal to become one of the top five global carmakers within 20 years.

The SU7 launched on March 28, 2024, with three versions: Standard, Pro, and Max. Prices start at RMB 215,900 ($29,480), RMB 245,900 ($33,550), and RMB 299,900 ($40,900), respectively. Deliveries of the Standard and Max models began in April 2024, with the Pro model following in May.

Strong Sales and Future Plans

By December 2024, Xiaomi had delivered over 130,000 SU7 units. The demand is so high that new orders now require a wait of at least 17 weeks.

Looking ahead, Xiaomi plans to expand its EV lineup. New models include the SU7 Ultra and the YU7, its first SUV. The SU7 Ultra, priced at RMB 814,900 ($111,000), began pre-sales in October 2024. Its official launch is scheduled for March 2025.

To celebrate the year’s achievements, Lei Jun will host a New Year’s Eve event at Xiaomi’s EV factory on December 31, 2024. The event will be livestreamed.

Xiaomi’s bold moves in the EV market, combined with smart marketing and innovation, are cementing its place as a key player in the industry.
