The year 2025 has begun with fresh leaks surrounding the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Following last year’s steady stream of insider information, including details on magnetic Joy-Cons and a redesigned dock, new photos have surfaced on Reddit. These images reportedly show the final version of the Switch 2 motherboard, offering insights into its core components and performance potential.
Not a high-end console, but still an upgrade
At the center of the leaked motherboard lies Nvidia’s Tegra T239 system-on-chip (SoC). While part of the label on the chip has been obscured, visible markings suggest it uses Samsung’s 8-nanometer manufacturing process. This aligns with earlier speculation and confirms that Nintendo aims for efficiency rather than cutting-edge hardware.
The motherboard also features two 6 GB LPDDR5 memory modules from SK Hynix, providing a total of 12 GB of RAM. This marks a significant improvement over the original Switch, which had only 4 GB. The upgraded memory promises enhanced performance for future games, though it won’t compete with current high-end consoles.
Additionally, thermal insulation is visible around the components, hinting at improved cooling for the device. However, no SD card slot is evident, suggesting Nintendo might lean towards cloud-based storage solutions for memory expansion.
Performance set between PS4 and PS4 Pro
As said before, the Nintendo Switch 2 is not meant to be a top-tier console. The leaked board backs this up, showing parts that may give it power close to Sony’s PS4 and PS4 Pro. While this keeps it behind the newest devices, it is a clear step up from the first Switch, which used older tech even at its launch.
Talks about the Switch 2’s release have been active for months. Some say it will be shown in January 2025, with sales starting in March.
