Huawei Nova 13i Launched: A Familiar Yet Capable Smartphone with 108MP Camera

Huawei has quietly launched its latest addition to the Nova series, the Huawei Nova 13i, following the introduction of the Nova 12i in March 2024. While the Nova 13i doesn’t bring any groundbreaking new features compared to its predecessor, it does come with a few upgrades and a familiar design, making it a solid option for those in search of a mid-range device. The new device is now listed on Huawei’s site, available in select markets.

Familiar Specs with Minor Updates

The Huawei Nova 13i shares much of its DNA with the Nova 12i, so it may not seem revolutionary to those who are already familiar with the previous model. One of the standout features is the 108MP main camera, which remains unchanged from its predecessor. However, aside from the impressive main sensor, the other cameras are more modest. The device is equipped with a 2MP depth sensor on the back, and an 8MP selfie camera, both of which have remained the same since the Nova 12i. Additionally, the device’s video recording capabilities are limited to 1080p at 30fps due to the chipset.

Snapdragon 680 Chipset Still in Use

At the heart of the Nova 13i is the Snapdragon 680 chipset, a tried-and-tested processor that first debuted in late 2021. While it’s not the latest in terms of power, it is still capable of handling everyday tasks efficiently. However, it remains a 4G chipset, which may disappoint users who are looking for a 5G-ready device. The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM and is available in either 128GB or 256GB of storage options, providing ample space for apps and media. One notable change from the previous model is the operating system – the Nova 13i comes with EMUI 14.2 out of the box, offering users a more updated software experience.

Display and Design

The Nova 13i sports a large 6.7-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1080p+ and a 90Hz refresh rate. This provides a smooth visual experience for media consumption and gaming. Interestingly, the device features Always On Display (AOD) functionality, which is somewhat rare for LCD panels. The front camera is housed in a punch-hole design, and the fingerprint reader is conveniently mounted on the side.

The design of the Nova 13i is eye-catching, particularly in the colour options available. The phone comes in Blue and White, both featuring gold accents. Around the camera module, there is a “Super Star Orbit Ring” which adds a touch of elegance.

Battery and Charging

Powering the Huawei Nova 13i is a large 5,000mAh battery, which should easily last a full day of moderate use. The device supports 40W SuperCharge Turbo, allowing the battery to reach 62% charge in just 30 minutes.

Price and Availability

The Huawei Nova 13i is already available in select markets. In Mexico, the 256GB variant is priced at MXN 6,000, which translates to approximately $290, €280, or ₹25,000. It is also listed in Malaysia for MYR 1,300 for the 256GB version.
