iPhone 17 Air and Galaxy S25 Slim Batteries Capacity Will Be Shockingly Small

iPhone 12 Air

A few years ago, smartphone makers tended to prioritize design and sleekness over the actual specifications. Unfortunately, to achieve thinner and thinner bodies, brands had to sacrifice some of the components, and the battery was the one to take the biggest hit. This changed in recent years, with consumers demanding bigger batteries that can keep an entire day or more of usage. With the consolidation of silicon-carbon batteries, that can fit more capacity without making the battery bulkier, we thought that companies could find the perfect balance. As far as the iPhone 17 Air and Galaxy S25 Slim are concerned, this does not seem to be the case.

iPhone 17 Air and Galaxy S25 Slim Battery Capacity to be Between 3,000 and 4,000 mAh

Rumors have been floating since last year about the iPhone 17 Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim. What do these devices have in common? They are Apple and Samsung’s response to users who want a sleek smartphone. They will be thinner than other devices in their respective families. Unfortunately, this sleekness will come with a price. One that will certainly be bitter for some consumers.

The iPhone 17 Air will come with a single camera that will help Apple keep its slim profile. Now, there is another trade-off revealed. The smartphone will have a small battery. The same happens with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim. This one will pack multiple cameras, but will still sacrifice the battery capacity. According to reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, both flagships will have batteries between 3,000 and 4,000 mAh. This was the norm ten years ago, but the market changed, and now we are used to 5,000, 6,000, and even 7,000 mAh on current flagships.

This is seriously disappointing, but it might not be the biggest of surprises. While the Chinese smartphone makers are running fast with the new silicon-carbon battery technology, we haven’t heard any advancement in this regard from Samsung and Apple. Some rumors emerged that Samsung could be using Silicon-Carbon on the Galaxy S25 Slim, but that won’t be the case. Honestly, I would be surprised to see Samsung adopting a new battery tech all of a sudden. The company has been conservative with everything that involves battery and charging tech. After the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung makes slow advancements in battery and charging.

In a world, where some Chinese mid-range smartphones will launch with 7,500 mAh battery, Samsung and Apple will launch slim smartphones with a lot less. So here comes the question, is the market asking for a slim smartphone? Would consumers sacrifice the battery just for having a thin device? We will get the answer as soon as these devices hit the shelves.

One thing we know for sure, Samsung and Apple, the latter in particular, can kickstart new trends. There are rumors of Chinese brands preparing their thin smartphones in the future. These, for sure, will be more courageous in the battery capacity.

There is still no word about the exact release of these two devices. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim could become official in a few days, during January 22’s Unpacked event. However, there are also rumors pointing to a release in May. Meanwhile, rumors say the iPhone 17 Air will launch later this year.
