Multiple Honor Senior Executives Resign – What is Happening?

Back in the last week, Honor’s CEO, George Zhao resigned from his position at the company and that took effect immediately. At that time, the reports suggested health concerns which prompted his decision to leave the board of directors. Shortly after the announcement, an official statement was published confirming the move. The company appointed Li Jian as the new CEO, a former Huawei executive with over 20 years of experience in the mobile segment. In a new twist, more executives are leaving the company.

Today, a report disclosed that the Global Marketing Chief, the Chief Marketing Officer for China, and the Sales leader for China have all left the company. A company representative commented that “this is a routine adjustment of regional managers”. Guo Rui, previously the CMO for overseas operations, will now take on the CMO position for the domestic market. He replaces Jian Hairong, who is leaving the company. Moreover, Zheng Shubao, the sales chief is resigning. In his place, Chen Haoqin, former head of operations in East China, will take the helm at the sales office.

What Could be Happening at Honor?

As the company stated, the move seems to be a routine adjustment of regional managers. However, the company may also be making some changes to bring better numbers in the coming months. While the company is gearing up for an IPO, it’s still facing an unfavorable market landscape. According to reports, the company saw a decline in shipments during the last year. Also, the growth of the foldable market stalled last year. Honor has been investing a lot in the foldable segment and is constantly pushing new technology. To recall, Honor was one of the first smartphone makers to introduce a silicon-carbon battery, and now this technology is gaining traction among flagships.

Despite the unfavorable landscape, the company still has the potential to overcome challenges. Perhaps, the new adjustments will bring some changes shortly. We expect to hear more soon.
