He explained that employees living within an hour of a Dell office must come in every day, while those farther away can keep working from home.

Finance, this transition has not been smooth. Anonymous sources said they received little guidance on which office they should report to. Some employees also believe this move is a hidden strategy to push people to quit. While this might be true for some, Dell insists this is a natural shift, not a sudden change.

At the start of 2023, Dell reclassified its employees as “hybrid,” requiring them to be in the office at least 39 days per quarter. In September, the company sent a memo to its global sales team, making in-office work mandatory. Other departments, such as engineering and management, had already been called back full-time as part of the return-to-office push.

According to Business Insider, nearly 50% of Dell’s workforce chose to stay remote in 2024. With this new policy, Dell is following the lead of the U.S. government and major companies like Amazon and JP Morgan Chase, which are also shifting away from remote work in favor of office-based policies.
