Take-Two recently confirmed that the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is confirmed for 2025. Over a decade passed since the launch of GTA 5 in 2013, and the game still sells like hotcakes among consoles thanks to its great quality and the online mode which keeps addicting. Due to all the anticipation towards GTA 6 as most of the fans expect it to overcome its predecessors due to the use of new consoles’ technology, Take-Two is confident that the game will bolster declining console sales.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes GTA 6 and other 2025 games will boost console sales. He also confirmed that GTA 6 will come to consoles first, with a PC version arriving later, following Rockstar’s usual pattern.
GTA 6 Might Quickly Revamp the Sales Numbers of Current Consoles
The current generation of consoles is about to complete five years in November this year. Therefore, it’s no surprise to see the number of sales declining quickly. The numbers are even more expressive when it comes to the Xbox Series X/S which hasn’t been selling well. Since the release of GTA 6 can be considered a big event in the gaming industry, it is expected to shake things in the market. Many players won’t simply sit and wait for it to come to PCs. Therefore, the game may quickly make some players buy new consoles just to play it.
Zelnick further states that other games will be released in 2025 that could boost the console as well. However, none of them is popular like the GTA franchise. Other relevant games are Ghost of Yotei, the sequel/spin-off for Ghost of Tsushima, which will sell exclusively for PS5 this year. There is also another sequel: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which could boost sales of PlayStation 5.
Lastly, he acknowledges the fact that a big share of the game sales will also come from PC. However, there is no launch window for the game to reach PC. We could expect it to launch at least one year after the console’s release with some improvements.
