WhatsApp to Allow Linking Social Media Accounts to Profiles

WhatsApp Social Media

Meta is working on a new feature for WhatsApp that will allow regular users to link their social media accounts directly to their profiles. While business accounts already have this capability, the update aims to extend the functionality to individual users, enhancing connectivity and personalization within the platform. This move reflects Meta’s ongoing efforts to integrate its services and provide a more seamless social experience for WhatsApp’s global user base.

WhatsApp’s Social Media Integration

The feature was discovered in a WhatsApp beta version for iPhone by WABetaInfo. It is not available yet, but leaked screenshots show how it will work. Users will be able to add links to their social media profiles so contacts can access them with one tap.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp wants to make profiles more dynamic and engaging. A new section will be added in the profile settings, where users can choose to add social media links.

For now, Instagram is the only social media platform available in the beta version. Meta will probably add more options before the final release. They may include their own platforms like Threads and Facebook.

Business accounts need to sign in to verify an Instagram link. This new feature does not need verification. Meta might add a verification process later to stop impersonation or misuse.

User Control & AvailabilityWhatsApp Social Media

  • The feature is optional ā€“ users donā€™t have to share their social media profiles.
  • It is currently in beta testing and not yet available to the public.
  • The feature is being tested on iPhone, but it will likely come to Android as well.

WhatsApp is free to download for everyone from the App Store and Google Play Store. The beta version, however, is only available to a small group of users. It gives early access to new features. These users can get the beta version through TestFlight, Apple’s app for testing pre-release apps.
