Huawei has launched a new HarmonyOS NEXT public beta update with version 5.0.0.126. This update brings major improvements to themes, the home screen, the system, and several Huawei apps.
The company is expanding HarmonyOS NEXT to more devices. Alongside the public beta, Huawei started a closed beta program for the Nova 13 series, standard Nova 12, Nova 12 Pro, and MatePad Pro 12.2 tablets. Meanwhile, flagship devices like the Mate 70 series, Pura 70 models, Mate 60, Mate X6, Mate X5, Pocket 2, and Nova 12 Ultra are receiving new public beta builds.
This update includes several new features and enhancements, with a file size of 1.71GB.

Theme Improvements
- More emojis added to Mood and Mood Space themes.
- Enhanced DIY combinations for better customization.
- Introduced the Air Shooting theme, which lets users click a basketball to shoot for a fun, stress-relieving experience.
Calling Enhancements
- Users can now end calls by pressing the power button. This feature is available under Calls > Settings > Advanced.
- Press the power button twice to reject a call or once to cancel an outgoing call.
- Mute an incoming call by pressing the power or volume button.
Privacy and Security
- A new File Safe feature encrypts and secures pictures, audio, videos, and documents.
- Users can manually switch the startup ringtone via Settings > Sounds and Vibration > Startup Ringtone.
Home Screen Upgrades
- Users can add a blank page when editing the home screen.
- Drag and rearrange entire home screen pages by long-pressing and moving them.
System Improvements
- A new timer feature lets users schedule automatic power on/off (Settings > System > Timer).
- Air Gesture File Transfer allows users to share files with a simple grabbing and releasing motion (Settings > System > Quick Launch and Gestures > Air Transfer).
- Drag pictures from Super Transfer Station into the gallery to save them.
- Screenshots in split-screen and floating windows now recognize and capture only the selected areas.
- A new privacy coding feature lets users hide sensitive information in screenshots.
- In the multitasking center, pull down a task card to lock it, preventing deletion during cleanup.
- Added support for connecting to Huawei HiCar via USB.
- A new Smart Text Recognition feature in memos detects phone numbers, addresses, dates, and emails for quick actions (Memo > Three-dot Icon > Settings > Smart Text Recognition).
MeeTime App Updates
- SMS folders are now available in the message interface for easy organization.
File Management Enhancements
- A new large file cleanup tool helps free up storage space (Recent > Broom Icon > Large File Cleanup).
Calendar Improvements
- Users can customize important day cards with background images (Long press on Important Day Card > Edit).
AI Life App Features
- Remote access to Huawei PCs is now possible through the AI Life app.
- A new Smart TV remote home monitoring feature lets users check home activity anytime.
Huawei Reading Enhancements
- Users can turn pages by sliding up/down or using the volume button.
Browser Updates
- Users can add web pages to the home screen for quick access.
