Gmail Introduces AI-Powered ‘Add to Calendar’ Button with Gemini

Google has introduced a new AI-powered feature for Gmail users. This tool, powered by Google’s Gemini AI, helps users add events to Google Calendar directly from an email.

Google’s New AI Feature: Add Events to Calendar from Gmail

Starting Monday, some Gmail users will see an “Add to Calendar” button in emails with event-related details. Gemini AI scans emails and detects important scheduling information. With a single click, users can add an event to their Google Calendar.

Once clicked, a side panel opens in Gmail. Here, users can confirm that the event has been added. This eliminates the need to manually create calendar entries, saving time and effort.

Feature Availability and Limitations

For now, the feature is only available in English and works only on the web. Google has not announced when it will expand to mobile devices or other languages.

However, there are some limitations:

  • Events added using this feature do not include other guests.
  • The button will not appear in emails that already contain extractable event details, such as flight or restaurant reservations.

Who Can Use It?

This new feature is available to select Google Workspace users, including:

  • Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers.
  • Subscribers of Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium.
  • Users who previously bought the now discontinued Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise add-ons.

Workspace admins can enable this feature through the Workspace Admin console by turning on smart features and personalization settings.

The “Add to Calendar” button is the latest AI-powered upgrade for Gmail. In June 2024, Google added several AI features, including:

  • Help with writing emails.
  • Summarizing long email threads.
  • Answering questions and finding information within emails.
