Kuo: Apple Knows Apple Intelligence is “Underwhelming” and Isn’t Enough to Boost iPhone Upgrades

Apple Intelligence

Apple presented its Apple Intelligence AI last year as a response to the phenomenon of AIs like ChatGPT. Apple’s take was more than a simple assistant with smart and contextual replies, the company made Apple Intelligence a big hub of all its AI features. These AI features that came to improve the experience of iPhone users are only available in modern iPhones. At first, some considered Apple Intelligence as a big feature that could boost iPhone upgrades. However, this does not seem to be the case anymore, and even Apple acknowledges this fact. A new report comes today from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and clarifies this fact.

Apple’s Intelligence Isn’t Enough to Boost iPhone Upgrades – The Delays to New Siri Implementation Leave Customers Upset.

According to Kuo, Apple Intelligence available with iOS 18 is not pushing people to upgrade iPhones. He further states, that Apple’s recent Siri failures are also going to bring some impact on 2025 iPhone shipments. The market is starting to realize this, and the forecasts are starting to become more conservative.

In July 2024, Kuo said people were too hopeful about Apple Intelligence making more people upgrade their iPhones. In January, he doubled down, making it clearer. He said interest in Apple Intelligence dropped a lot. Why? Because Apple announced the features in June but didnā€™t release them until October.

Kuo keeps its cautious view in light of Apple’s Siri debacle. To recall, Apple has strongly advertised the new Siri powered with Apple Intelligence features. However, the empowered assistant saw multiple delays after being promised for iOS 18 release. The latest reports indicate that it could come only with iOS 18.5 update.

The analys states that Apple is already aware of Apple Intelligence’s Ć¼nderwhelming performance”. For that reason, it provided suppliers with conservative iPhone shipments forecasts as a direct result.

“Lately, the market consensus has shifted to a more cautious stance on iPhone shipments and Apple Intelligence (Siri), which supports my earlier predictions. Moreover, it’s clear that when Apple shared conservative shipment forecasts with its key suppliers early this year, they had already factored in Apple Intelligence’s underwhelming performance.”

Siri Delays Could Impact iPhone 16 and 17 Sale.s

People are unhappy that Siri’s Apple Intelligence delay might hurt iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 sales. Last week, Apple said Siri’s personal context and App Intents wonā€™t arrive until next year. The company didnā€™t expect t strong backlash from tech experts and customers, but thatā€™s exactly what happened. With ChatGPT and Google Gemini already out, Apple fans want the company to move faster. We can also remember Siri’s big failure at the Super Bowl which buried the high expectations.

Longtime Apple reporter John Gruber, for example, published an in-depth report calling out Apple’s Siri shortcomings. His commentary resonated with many who have the same feelings about Apple’s longtime struggle with Siri improvements.

Apple had the chance to improve things with a new Siri model featuring modern AI capabilities. However, with the delay we can say that Apple is losing “momentum”.
