With the success of Valve’s Steam Deck, we saw many companies joining this interesting trend to create their portable consoles. This trend brought multiple devices like the ASUS ROG or even the handheld portables from AYANEO. With rumors spreading about Xbox joining the segment, it’s always interesting to see new ideas that play with this niche. We have to say that with the advent of cloud gaming, this might be the future of mobile gaming. We may see handheld consoles winning the market where the so-called gaming smartphones failed. So what about combining the best of both worlds? It’s not hard to find handheld consoles that run Android for games and can run cloud gaming services like GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud. A Chinese modder decided to combine a powerful smartphone with all the convenience of a mobile console. In the end, he created an advanced handheld console with the Redmi K80 Pro serving as the core.
Meet the Redmi K80 Pro Handheld Mod
Wang Teng, General Manager of the Redmi Brand had his attention caught by this intriguing casemod of the Redmi K80 Pro. A Chinese user with great abilities, successfully crafted a case for its Redmi K80 making it a unique handheld console. The result is a stylish, eye-catching product, that certainly draws attention.
According to the modder, he carried out a meticulous disassembly and assembly of the Redmi K80 Pro. This is a process that certainly pushes away the users without some technical abilities. After this, he used 3D printing technology to create a new set of structural parts to create the handheld console.
An Advanced Mode With Unique Modifications
In order to keep thermals in control, the modder added six fans to the new structure, while also adding a semiconductor heat disspation unit. This will keep the phone’s temperatures low even on demanding gaming sessions. The most interesting part? He added a massive 18,650 mAh battery to keep stable power support for the entire heat dissipation system. It will grant enough performance and keep thermals in check during the most intense usage.
In circuit design, the user modifies the charging port to the back. As a result, the player won’t be affected by the charging cable while playing the game. The “reverse engineering” isn’t limited to this change. The modder also modified the power on and the volume keys to the front, making it easier to operate. It also falls in line with the ergonomics.
The phone’s 6.67-inch screen with 2K resolution sits at the center of the modded case and changes weren’t necessary. The crispy screen is more than enough to deliver in a gaming handheld. However, when it comes to audio, the modder decided to boost the experience. He added four new speakers to improve the audio experience in the new console. When it comes to performance, the phone has the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is more than enough to run every game available for Android.
Hopefully, We Will See More of This Concept in the Future
The result is an advanced mod that is certainly worth all the worth employed in it. Of course, this isn’t something that mere mortals won’t be able to replicate at home. Also, we don’t expect to see the modder selling this modification. So, this probably is a unique-crafted Redmi K80 Pro handheld console. The mod certainly captured the attention of Redmi, and perhaps, we can see the brand exploring this concept in the future. Only time will tell.
