Apple has plans for a Major iPhone Makeover for the Device’s 20th Anniversary in 2027. The first iPhone was released in June, 2007 which makes this year it’s 20th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, Apple intends to plan a redesign, as mentioned in Mark Gurman’s report on Bloomberg. This update may be one of the biggest changes Apple has undergone till now.
The most notable development is the foldable iPhone, which Apple could launch alongside the new iPhone 19 Pro in 2027. Reports say Apple will design this new version with a lot more glass. Though the details are not final, it can mean that the phone will have a glass body giving it a sleek design. It can also imply a Xiaomi Mix Alpha style wrap-around display.
Apple Gears Up for Major iPhone Redesign Ahead of 20th Anniversary
The concept of an all-glass iPhone is not new. Back in 2017, Apple’s former design lead, Jony Ive, thought about creating a streamlined iPhone crafted from a single slab of glass. That idea didn’t come to fruition, but it looks like Apple is poised to take steps in that direction.
This Concept is Not Entirely New: There Have Been Whispers Surrounding An All-Glass iPhone For Years Now. According to reports, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, Jony Ive was said to be imagining an iPhone that was single-glass, seamless in appearance back in the year 2017. Even though this concept did not launch, it seems like Apple is in position to realizing it.
Gurman’s latest report also covers more immediate updates. The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models will not feature a two-tone rear panel. This goes against some early renders and leaks. Like the current iPhone 16 Pro, the 17 Pro will keep a clean, uniform color. Gurman describes it as a more refined design. The camera module is also getting a major change. The iPhone 17 Pro will have a new look with a larger camera island. This island will stretch across the width of the phone. The update will improve both the phone’s appearance and its camera performance.
The next years will be exhilarating for iPhone fans as Apple keeps improving its technology and smartphone design. The company is planning something exciting to mark the the 20th anniversary of the iPhone and that includes an all-glass body or even a foldable body.
