Gionee Elife S Plus: MT6753, USB Type-C and more for $260

IMG-20151102-WA0001A fresh new Gionee has leaked with some mildly powerful specifications. Gionee aren’t known for their attractive price tags, and the new leak — of the Gionee Elife S Plus — appears to follow the trend.

The Elife S Plus comes with a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720p HD display, but like a few other Gionee phones, the panel used is AMOLED and not an LCD. But that still doesn’t justify the price tag of 16,999 INR or $260 that has leaked along with the phone… we’re hoping the leakster that leaked the pricing got it wrong.

Gizchina News of the week

Nonetheless, the Elife S Plus appears to have a pretty design along with a ‘premium’ build quality, something that’s become expected of Gionee phones.

The Elife S Plus is also purported to feature super thin bezels; leaked pictures show the phone’s front but with a display that’s turned off, it’s hard to see where the bezels start and end. The folks at PhoneRadar managed to catch a couple glimpses of the phone:

Other specifications of this upcoming phone include 3GB RAM, 16GB on-board expandable storage, a 3150mAh battery, a 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 5 mega-pixel front facing camera and support for 4G LTE/Dual SIM.

The Elife S Plus will come in Dark Blue, White and Golden colors, and is expected to be unveiled in India later this month.

Glossy cheap looking back. 720p screen. $260 price tag. Something feels wrong.

No, this sounds exactly like Gionee, in fact they are one of the few companies that give Vivo a run for their money price wise.

This will most likely become a BLU overseas in the USA and the americas… Where it will be almost half as expensive like what happens with the Elife E8, (PURE XL) IMHO excellent piece of phone, the slide e8 that is.

Gionee has an agreement with about 15 companies (Blu being one of the them). Basically they all split R&D costs and Gionee (which is also an OEM) manufactures all the phones. Gionee usually (but not always) gets a 3-6 month window on new phone releases before they sub brands get them.

That explains a lot. Dividing cost to 15 is perfect business and marketing, Goon reserves up as Display and brand recognition. So what do say is their after sales support qualification? Any good? Good updates rate? Why those updates don’t do down the tree to blue for example?

Gionee is decent with updates not great, not horrible. Most of their phones have a pretty good modding community tho. As for Blu it depends on the model, I had two Blu phones. One was updated regularly, the other was not.

Well I do get the impression that BLU also sources phones from other manufacturers so that might be the case as I’ve heard that gionee does send updates now and then …

Gionee is only responsible for the hardware, Blu does the software. Blu uses a variety of software for it’s phones. Some run Gionee Amigo (with Blu branding), some run stock Android, others run stock with tweaks. But Gionee manufactures all of Blus phones but once they leave China its up to Blu to support them.

Great to know. So they ARE THE ONES to blame indeed if delayed updates. The Allview X2 (Romania) (gionee elite e8) has some great reviews too it does seem that the gionee RoM remained in that one … Although it does retain some Allview branding on the ROM.

Yea Gionee provides manufacturing and development, the other companies can use Gionee software if they want but aren’t required too.

Then they REALLY should take advantage of that. But sometimes some companies don’t get the point that customer satisfaction is really important if not the most important. Some seem to think that they are finish if the product went out the store and that it.

$260 is cheap for a Gionee phone but I will say every Gionee/Blu phone I have had, none of them have ever felt cheap. The build quality on them is excellent and the camera’s are always very good. What really holds Gionee back is software.
