Meizu VP reckons the PRO 5 Mini will come H1 2016

Meizu decided its MX-series of phones wasn’t high-end enough, which is why the new PRO-series came into being a few weeks back. There’s only a PRO 5 for now, but as we recently reported, there will be a PRO 5 Mini in the future also.

Meizu VP Li Nan has gone on record to acknowledge the existence of a such a device, and has also commented on the timeline as to when the PRO 5 Mini can be expected.

Gizchina News of the week

The PRO 5 Mini, as the name suggests, is simply, a mini version of the rather large PRO 5 (it has a 5.7-inch screen). As for the specifications, it’s believed to have a MediaTek MT6797 (aka Helio X20) deca-core processor at its disposal with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM along with a 4.7-inch screen with an FHD resolution.

Meizu have always liked having high-end media features on their phones, which is why the PRO 5 Mini is purported to have a 21 mega-pixel camera. Details besides these are scarce for now.

Coming back to Li Nan’s comments, he said that the PRO 5 Mini will come in the first half of 2016, which isn’t all that far from now.

Are you going to hold out for this mini flagship phone?

Great build qualty and specs. But, software optimazation and regular updates sucks.

It’s been very good with MX5. No software issues at all and have had 6 updates since July, basically 2 a month.

I like the way you say the release ‘it isn’t that far from now’, the first half of next year means anytime up to June, that implies the release will be in the next 7 months, that’s hardly soon! It looks like all helio x20 phones have the same release date, which is a shame as I was hoping for something this side of xmas.

actually I was curious about that, because the article here just characterizes the claim, he doesn’t provide an actual quote or src link. The VP might have said “January 1st” or “June 30th” for all we know.

edit: found source link.. traced back to original. It is very non-specific; just “1st half of year”.. he names it as the small screen variant, which does sorta imply that the primary variant will come earlier. Here’s the VP’s quote directly on Weibo: «热闚 4.7 ć·Šćłçš„ć°ć±ćč•æ——舰芁明ćčŽäžŠćŠćčŽæ‰æœ‰ćŻèƒœïŒŒć› äžșæ˜Ż PRO çł»ćˆ—ïŒŒ2499 çš„ćŻèƒœæ€§æŻ”èŸƒć€§Â»

Meizu is becoming like Elephone, seems they have a new phone announcement every month. So far they still have continued supporting MX5 and it’s been problem free.

      nah, i disagree.
they are simply making a phone that targets different customers.

Elephone comes out with their “new flahship” every other month.

I feel like its getting a little too crowded with the MX5, Pro 5 and Meizu Metal. And now a Pro 5 mini. Next will be an M2 Note Pro and M2 Pro. They are all the same base phones with a minor differences.

well, this one at 4.7″ has nearly no competitor.
There’s anything good out there with this size.

i know what you mean though.
they are too close to each other speaking of specs and price.

But in my opinion this shouldn’t be an issue, you can find the right phone for you without compromise.

It’s not a problem for the consumer, but for the company it makes little sense.

              yes, of course.

I’m confident about this phone though, the one that is redundant seems the PRO 5.

I just don’t see who the Pro 5 is for besides the very small percentage who want to access the few apps MX5 can’t handle (which is handful of games on max settings)

actually the Metal seems to be a new entry.

Like Letv did with the 1S and Xiaomi is going to do with the metal version of the Redmi Note Pro (if rumors get confirmed)

If it has HSPA 850/1900 support and a sub-$400 price tag, count me in. I’m officially over the big screen thing, and there is a serious lack of quality devices in the sub-5″ category (you’ve basically got the iPhone and the Xperia Z-mini series, but they’re far too expensive for what they offer).

I’d consider the OPX at 5″ if they hadn’t opted for a 2-year-old SoC. Oh well. Seems my search for the perfect device will never end.

I hope meizu will keep high quality Pro 5 to Pro 5 mini. Because no point to named “Pro 5” if the audio is not pro.

I’ve been burned by Meizu’s terrible software. Open up the roms and maybe I will consider buying another Meizu, if they cant fix their own software get the modding community to do it.

I’ve learned to not buy a phone unless you can get modded firmware.

Yeah, sadly that wont happen, ever!

Their business model is based on a locked boot-loader. They need this or nobody would buy the international phones. So no change in sight.

Instant buy for me… but only if it will have same audio-hardware as big pro5. That’s the decesive thing for me.
