The Gionee Marathon M5 has the largest capacity battery on a phone I’ve ever held in my hands. Before this, the title used to be with the Elephone P5000, which is a fat and chunky piece of kit.
The Gionee Marathon M5 was launched in India earlier today for 17,999 INR or $271. It comes with surprisingly nice looks (it has a little Letv Le 1s in it), a 6020mAh battery and seems to have been built well like most Gionee phones.
Full specifications of the Marathon M5 include a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p display, a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB on-board storage, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 5 mega-pixel front facing camera and two 3100mAh cells that deliver a total battery capacity of 6200mAh.
Gizchina News of the week
The phone has dimensions of 152mm × 76mm and is 8.5mm thick at its thickest point, which is far from bad. It weighs 214g. Out of the box, the Marathon M5 runs Android 5.1 with Amigo UI 3.1 on top.
Interestingly, the Marathon M5 is among the few phones to offer CDMA support. In the Indian market, there’s a dearth of CDMA phones, which is something Gionee will hope to exploit with the Marathon M5.
The Marathon M5 is a Flipkart exclusive and is available for purchase immediately.
Interesting, but ridiculously overpriced… Just like you would expect from gionee!
Yea they are expensive but I would also expect this to have excellent build quality, a great camera and excellent customer support. And with that processor/battery combo it should have amazing battery life (provided Amigo doesnt get in the way!).
I know, that’s how they work, but even then they’re really overpriced!
I don’t want them to make crappy devices at ridiculous price like many others, but i feel like the “you get what you pay for” quote isn’t right for them either: you pay quite a lot for the same thing… Look at your mx5: it’s not like it had a bad build quality, yet it cost half the price of gionee elife e8 at launch with similar hardware (something better, perhaps).
However, i don’t think amigo ui (at least the older version I’m actually running) is a power hungry rom, so i definitely think the marathon will have glorious battery life!
I love my MX5 but if you gave me the choice of my MX5 or a Gionee S7, I would take the S7 every time. It’s the same with Vivo, you can get better phones for less money but if your a fan of theirs the money doesn’t matter.
Amigo isn’t resource heavy at all but it can be very buggy.
Of course it goes for preferences: i myself would pay for the right huawei more than what i would pay for an… Let’s say… An oppo with the same specs at a slightly lower price! Yet i would know that i paid more than needed for the huawei!
Yes, the amigo could be buggy… I’m having some trouble myself in this moment :-/
Hahaha, you deserve an award for the correct usage of that battery description! kilo-milli-Ampere-hour! Although, with these huge batteries, I think it starts making sense to simply use “6Ah” instead! 😉
*lol* it’s simply 6AH ^^
It would be nice to see such big batteries in high mid-range and flagship phones. But they only care about design…
Not really, mAh is the standard unit and using Ah would’ve left many a reader confused.
That’s why you should educate your readers, 6kmah it’s actually plain stupid
The use of mah actually one of marketing term if phone maker use ah it sound small example 1.62ah, 2.75ah, 3ah etc.
And it’s not standard unit, standart unit is Watt hour. Mah not directly indicate battery size you need volt also.
There are lots of great articles and reviews here, but this is not one of them. If you fear that the readers are not educated – then write it down correctly and clarify.
Gionee and Vivo are the kings of thin phones, this doesn’t surprise me at all coming from them. Most other phones with this size battery would be closer to 11mm.
They should pair a 6000 mAh battery with a powerful SoC that could use the extra juice, like the Helios X10.
Just a little mistake, mt6735 is a QuadCore 1.3GHz (not 1.5GHz like describe)
Me want the gionee elife e8. Where to buy for $350 max
