Snapdragon 616 powered OPPO A53 announced

Yet another mid-range OPPO phone got announced today in the OPPO A53.

OPPO’s affection for the Snapdragon 615/616 is well known by now. The A53 too comes with the Snapdragon 616 and 2GB of RAM, and makes for a strictly mid-range setup.

Full specifications of this new phone include a 5.5-inch display with a 1280 x 720p resolution, an Adreno 405 GPU from the Snapdragon 616, aforementioned 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel Samsung-made ISOCELL rear camera, and a 5 mega-pixel front-facing shooter.

Gizchina News of the week

The OPPO A53 has a hybrid SIM slot, which means you can either use it as a dual SIM phone or a single SIM phone with storage expansion. On-board, there is 16GB storage. A satisfactory-sounding 3075mAh battery powers all that was just mentioned… despite which the A53 manages to be just 7.4mm slim.

The A53 runs Android 5.1 atop OPPO’s ColorOS 2.1, and has support for Dirac audio along with 1CC large five speaker sound chamber that is claimed to prevent distortion even in full volume. No word on pricing and/or availability yet!

Should be very decent battery life on this considering the rather large battery and the “low” resolution.

So they name their phone A53 and use the SD 616 which features 8 A53 cores? They really have a love affair with Snapdragon midrange CPU’s….

Normally I praise companies for using 720p displays but knowing Oppo this will be priced like a phone with a 2K display and a flagship SoC.

Those were my exact thoughts, when I first read the model number I thought to myself they surely are more imaginative than naming it after the cortex A53, but nope, wrong.

This newest one should be about comparable to an MT6753.

never like hybrid SIM, why don’t give us dual sim dual and SD expansion. Also their Dirac audio is so yesterday.

Snapdragon 615/616/617 are a yawm, waiting for 620, with Adreno 505 and two A72 cores.
Only meaningful devices with SD615 should go for a 720p screen(SoC is known for poor battery life and at 1080P is slow for a gaming phone)
