Despite the fact that we have a tonne of new phone brands coming up every year, Letv is a relatively new one. While the company has been around for a long, long time, it’s phones only came into existence in the first half of 2015.
Now that the brand is already a very popular one (among the youth, you would assume), the company has released some interesting insight into the demographics of the user base.
Letv only offer their phones in China right now (although India is soon going to be added to that list), so naturally, the data applies only to the Chinese users of the company’s ‘Superphones’.

Letv claim that they sold a massive (massive for a company as new into phones as Letv) 1 million smartphones in November alone. This includes 780,000 Le 1s, which is the company’s newest phone.
What also helped the cause was the 11.11 Singles Day and the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend.
Moving on, Letv smartphone users consume up to 1.2GB of data per month on average, while the industry average is under 800MB according to Letv.
Moving on to the demographics bit, the company says that 56.7% of their smartphone users are male; 41.27% were born in the 1980s while 36.14% were born in the 1990s.Quite clearly, Letv is a bit of a ‘youth’ brand!

I’m not a fan but I respect this company a lot. They were a brand new company (for phones) last year and are already going toe to toe with the big boys. It goes to show you that it is possible for companies like Elephone and Doogee to make good phones on the same level as the big boys, they just choose not to. Mlais and Siswoo are two other newer companies who are very close to being good.
I don’t think it’s quite the same for companies like Elephone, Doogee, Umi, etc, since these companies started out their days solely as phone companies. This means that their revenue is essentially non existent and even now, those companies solely rely on revenue from their phones (and other devices).
Compare that to a company like Letv or Xiaomi who gain revenue from many, many other markets (other than the mobile devices market), they can afford to perhaps not make a huge profit from a phone (and in some cases actually lose money) since, for them, releasing something like a phone that is relatively high end for little money means that they can expand their brand into those markets and their revenue will, in turn, be positively impacted as a result of this brand awareness in other markets.
Take Letv — most of us would probably never even have heard of that company if they had not released phones. And I would bet money that they did/have not make/made much, or even any profit from them.
Xiaomi started out just as a phone company and they are one of the youngest companies in this industry. Xiaomi’s growth and their ventures into other segments (smart home, accessories etc) is because they offered an amazing product and followed it up with more amazing products. The difference between Elephone and LeTV isn’t budgets or company size. It is quality of product. LeTV invests all their time and resources into making the best possible phone. Elephone prefers to spend all their time releasing 12 flagships a year, 25 budget phones and every other product they can slap their name on. If they spent all that time focused on just 3 phones (flagship, midrange, budget) they could create quality devices that match those of LeTV and they wouldn’t need a new flagship every month.
you are right, but Elephone maybe can’t keep gaining so much profit from only few models. the brand like Elephone needs constantly rease new things to keep people’s eyes on them, it’s hard to do it if they stop releasing new products all the way. you can see how Doogee did these months, i heard they are going to release 6 or more models in the next 2-3 months. it’s impossible to them to provide good service to all the models. sometimes, the reason that tey release new one is against their competitors, not really come out of long time programmes of this company. Elephone would gain more profit by releasing one good phone than releasing twelve crappy phones. One good phone could take them from an afterthought to a serious competitor in this industry. One good phone builds a loyal fanbase who will buy their phones no matter what. One good phone brings in investors. Right now Elephone provides no service on most phones, cutting back to one phone means they can support it a lot longer. The problem with Elephone is they tried to become the next Xiaomi. What they failed to realize though is Xiaomi started out with good products then grew to all these other segments. in the beginning Xiaomi was just phones (and their promotional sneakers and clothes which were never widely available).
I’m predicting next year will be LeTV’s year.
LeTV has a marketing trick up their sleeve that no other manufacturer has.
LeTV’s ‘Video-as-a-Service’ Model has proven to be a success in China.
Now all they have to do is get carriers around the world to buy into the idea.

Am more worried about how they are collecting the data and just how much data will they need to collect?
wouldnt mind them coming to the UK, would love to get my hands on a LeTV MAX to give my oneplus 2 something to be scared about 🙂
