Xiaomi owners wanting MIUI based on Android 6 can begin the long wait next week as development for certain phones will begin from then.
Xiaomi have officially stated that they will stop all development work on MIUI based on Android 4.4 next week and will switch over to building MIUI based on Android 6. It’s a glimmer of hope for Xiaomi owners who want the latest Android version but it means there is still a long way to go before it is released.
Gizchina News of the week
The first phone that will receive the update are the Xiaomi Mi3, Xiaomi Mi4 and Xiaomi Mi Note flagship devices. Beta’s of the ROM will also be launched but to closed groups only.

“but to closed groups only” from where they’ll leak to everyone 😀
I hope so 😀
And get banned promptly
Banned in what way ?
Testers of beta rom(before beta gets beta public release. There is a fortnightly release of betas to select few apart from orange friday release) cant leak rom via any other source. Leaking will get you banned from the forum and future testing of any Xiaomi device.
That is MIUI policy.
If they can trace it back to you 🙂
hopefully people will stop saying that Xiaomi doesn’t update their version of Android.
let’s be honest, lollipop was a crappy upgrade from Google and that’s why many phones were still on a more reliable Kitkat.
so far lollipop is installed on roughly 15% of active devices, enough said.
Yes, Lollipop did start out that way but it’s stable now in it’s 5.1 state… A colleague of mine has a Nexus 5 that’s had it’s official Marshmallow update pushed out and basically, it’s gone backwards! There’s all sorts of issues with it and he wishes he stayed on Lollipop…
Google seem to be doing the Microsoft thing a lot now, they chuck out a new version of Android which has plenty of bugs in it, then they patch the hell out of it in incremental updates instead of getting it nearly there in the first place! (*Microsoft way = Vista > 7, Windows 8 > 8.1, Windows 10 > Threshold 2 Update) I think Kitkat was the last time it was pretty much spot on from the off..? I hope they get this right in future!
agree.
i really don’t feel the rush of getting the lastest update unless they bring some new awesome features (which doesn’t happen often)
idk what I was doing wrong, but even M preview worked flawlessly on my nexus 5.
What do you think about YunOs? Is it alternative to Android? My problem with Android is high specs like 3gb ram is not enough for multi tasking. I can’t believe that, old iPhone 6 with 1gb ram snappier than 3gb Android. What’s the ideas behind ios?
i didn’t know that iOS allows multitasking
Apple says that https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202070
well, that’s not realmultitasking.
my son has an ipad mini and when you open safari, then youtube app doesn’t keep playing the video.
you can switch back to YouTube and then the video starts playing again, but i haven’t seen doing any faster than my MI4.
Android, on the other hands allows to split the window with real multitasking.
with Android we have a problem though, which is memory leak, it’s a documented issue.
Apple OS is better optimized, but hey, do we want to talk about all the downsides of Apple?
I can get a 4GB ram, soon a 8GB ram for half the price, 4K display and many many other things.
Hope Redmi 1s also gets this manna..i use one as a standbye phone.
Yesss! Like with the Mi2, but even better!
2012´s Mi2 now has lollipop
2013´s mi3 now has marshmallow yes!!
Certainly a good news yessss!!!!
Xiaomi is better than Meizu on software optimizations and updates. That is it. I will give a chance to Xiaomi next time. I hated Meizu by using my m1 note.
Probably true but meizu at least released an ubuntu phone :3
Also, Xiaomi released Windows 10 rom for free. Mi4 users can use both Android and windows roms. Can Meizu users use both Android and Ubuntu roms for free on MX4?
Could be a selling point for Xiaomi Mi4 instead of Mi 4C.
Mi4 Users can use Windows 10 and have Android 6 very early.
I love xiaomi and i was a mod at the official en.miui.com forum since before they even released any hardware. But after owning the Mi4 a year ago, as well as the Mi Note Pro since day one it came out, I am really pissed with their “bad battery life, but look we sell cheap power banks” attitude. Damn I don’t want to constantly hook up my Mi Note Pro with a god damn power bank. I’ll move to a manufacturer that has either removable battery, at least 4000mAh or ultimate power saving mode (like the one in samsung devices which can make my note 4 last for 24h)
how is battery of mi note pro vs mi4 ? because my mi4 was lasting 3 days on or 2 days with big use, i’ve ordered a mi note pro yesterday, i hope it last the same…
