This is the start of the end of ‘Motorola’ branded phones

China’s Lenovo acquired Motorola from the mighty Google, but that didn’t change how buyers saw Motorola too much.

However, report emerging from Lenovo suggest that the Chinese company will soon be ditching the Motorola brand name.

What it’ll do instead is offer everything apart from the high-end Motorola phones under its own Vibe branding, while high-end devices will have a bit of Motorola in them.

Gizchina News of the week

For that, Lenovo will use a ‘Moto by Lenovo’ tag, Chief Operating Officer Rick Osterloh reportedly revealed.

Reports also suggest that according to Osterloh, his team would be taking over all mobile operations at Motorola.

Motorola has been credited with producing the first mobile phone, and has quite a few iconic devices in its arsenal. While hardcore fans mightn’t particularly like what’s happening here, it is the way forward, at least for Lenovo who’s paid a large sum of money to acquire the brand.

Outside of the US and a few European countries the Moto brand died a long time ago, this isn’t really surprising news.

Here in Italy the motorola brand is nearly extinct(as is nokia following them) , nearly no retailer have motorola phone the only ones I see are on the carrier Vodafone and are just a bunch of moto g and moto e. If you ask people around here they are like “what they still make phonez? lol”

Yea i travel around the world for work, I hardly ever see Moto phones in any of the cell phone markets (usually my first stop in a new country,). If I do see one it’s an older flip phone or the Moto E.

True, but the US guys defend the Moto brand as it’s the most important thing on the world. Go to AndroidAuthority and read the comments below similar articles. They’re just not right.

“How the Buyers saw Motorola”??? I was a huge fan of the company (since my RAZR xt910) and I be been waiting for decades for a good successor. Never came…… Only some plastic replicas far away from the old Motorola’s quality.
