Meizu are making their move and already inviting Chinese media to a launch, but will it be the rumoured Pro 5 Mini or the new Meizu MX6?
With Xiaomi getting all of the attention with the Xiaomi Mi5 launch just a month away, Meizu are trying to take the spotlight from their rivals by sending invitations out for their own event.
Apparently the launch will take place in February and while we don’t have confirmation from Meizu about the phone they plan to release, industry insiders believe it is going to be the Meizu MX6, not the Meizu Pro 5 mini.
Sources say that the Meizu MX6 will be a more elegant design than the MX5 with a more rounded metal frame and new curved glass design. The body of the phone will be large enough for a 4000mAh battery.
Gizchina News of the week
Meizu are believed to be sticking to Mediatek for the chipset and from earlier leaked benchmarks the processor in place will be the 10 core Mediatek Helio X20. Sony will supply a 20.7 mega-pixel main camera. Interestingly the phone will have a 1920 x 1080 display, 3GB RAM and 32GB memory.
Although the launch of the phone might be next month, the actual release date might not be until April. This could give Meizu the chance of announcing the first Helio X20 phone, however there is still opportunity for other phones to go on sale first.
waiting for pro 6 with exynos 8870 … x20 have weak gpu
lets see about that !
They both actually have the same GPU (Mali 880) just different variants. The one in the 8870 will be more powerful version but the X20 won’t exactly be weak.
mali 880, but at least mp4, should bring some good cards at the table in the gpu dept.
I would be surprised if it’s the MX6, but you never know with Meizu. Given their close relationship with Mediatek they could be the first to launch the X20. If it is the MX6 I hope the above specs are correct, I don’t want or need a 2k display on a 5.5 inch phone. It’s a waste of resources. The camera looks to be the IMX 220 which is the same sensor they have used on MX4 and MX5.
I don’t want the same camera! There’s better sensors out that can film 480fps slow mo, 60fps 1080p, OIS. I love my MX4 but the lack of some of these features just puts me off buying the next meizu hence I skipped MX4 PRO, MX5, PRO 5. There’s nothing which is substantially different between these models to justify upgrading.
OIS isn’t dependent on the sensor they can add an OIS module and still use the same camera.
Thanks for the clarification, looks like I need to start saving up then. I really want my next phone to be completely bezel less, don’t ask me why, I don’t know, I just want it. I guess the MX6 won’t be but if they optimise that camera a bit more and include OIS, I’m buying it!
In this particular case it’s tied to acceleration block (ASICS or DSP) but I don’t find implementation they use as charming as I would like it to be.
Main problem is that they are still cheap basterd’s (as they will probably ever be) as their are much better licensable IP designs available.
It’s right time for MX6 with Helio X20.
I think they will get rid off strips on the rear just like Meizu Metal but with metallic colors.
Instead to opting large batteries like latest Xiaomi phones, I guess they will stick with 3K ish battery with slimmer body than MX5.
There was one year between MX3 and MX4 and 10 months before MX4 and MX5. So the timing is a little off based on past releases.
Right, but I have a feeling that the MX5 didn’t sell as good as the MX4 (don’t ask me why, it’s just a feeling coming from the guts, I can totally be wrong)
I also have a feeling that the PRO5 didn’t sell very well either (again just a feeling)
In a couple of months we’ll see many phones coming out (either with SD820 and X20) and a late release could cost them sales
I had this argument with our resident know it all (realjjj) the other day. Without seeing actual sales numbers there really is no way to tell how well the MX5 sold. The only thing we do know is Meizu sold 20 million phones this year, up from 4.4 million in 2014. Meizu also had 5 million requests for it’s first presale of the MX5 in China and the first few MX5 sales in India were sold out in a day. The demand was definitely there, whether the sales matched it we don’t know.
I hope you’re not comparing me to him about this argument.
I’m not an analyst, I have no data to handle at all, it’s just a feeling that comes from the guts (not from the brain) and I can’t explain it.
I’m aware that I can totally be wrong about it.
Maybe because the MX4 was so hyped due to his Antutu record?
I don’t know, I really can’t explain it.
I’m aware that Meizu did great this year and I’m sure the sales were not only driven by his cheaper phones.
That said, whether or not they did great, I’m sure the sales now are starting to slow down (I hope this sounds realistic) so an earlier release won’t hurt them that much comparing to the benefits.
Let’s not forget they have been still selling the MX3 when the MX4 came out and still selling the MX4 right now.
Would I ever compare you to him?
I actually didn’t think it sold well until a recent trip to India, every train I was on I saw people with an MX5. A friend of mine in India has family runs a small phone shop (met him when I needed a phone repaired), he said he can’t keep up with the demand for the MX5.
The sales are definitely slowing down. Meizu is one of the brands that does 90% of it’s business within the first few months of release.
The only reason I say I would be surprised is because a lot of these companies are creatures of habit, they don’t stray far from their usual practices. It’s the same reason I continue to beat the drum that the Mi5 will sell for 1999 yuan (despite everyone else thinking it will be significantly more). But the Mi5 is a reason the MX6 could be released soon.
Their is not much to explain.
MX4 at it’s time whose extraordinary phone.
I can’t recommend Pro 5 even today as it lacks LTE support, it’s still best Android phone on the market. Why they didn’t put more efforts in international version that only they know.
I couldn’t recommend Pro 5 because it’s really that not much of an upgrade over the MX5, especially not for the extra $200 it costs.
needs 4GB ram , 2k display with 5.7′ ATLEAST and a 4500 mAh battery !
Not for the MX6.
ok. but 3gb ram is the same repetition on mx6 and doesnt differ out the newer model from the mx5.
monotony is a bad foe in this market.
Monotony can be bad but so to can pricing themselves out of the market. If we base it on the specs above, Meizu opted to spend money on upgrades wisely. Most people will never notice the difference between 3 and 4GB of RAM. But they will notice the difference between 16 and 32GB of RAM.
ROM*
and yep , thats a solid point !
pro 6 will likely have FullHD screen
im talking about mx6
What the hell are you going to do with that?
Complain that it is too expensive?
Oh I see 🙂
Muhammed is a young tech geek. High end specs are like porn to him. You remember what that was like don’t you? Before you get old and develop a sense of practicality.
Yeah I remember that period.
I used to buy the last Intel CPU and spend over $600 just for it.
My actual laptop doesn’t cost that much. Lol
When we get older we spend money differently.
When I was young I used to buy $200+ pair of sneakers.
Now I shop at Walmart. Lol
I can remember my first “high paying” job (high paying for a 21 year old lol) right out of college, I would go out and buy the latest tech toys and all my clothes were straight out of Brooks Brothers and J Crew. Now I shop at Old Navy lol and my wife puts me on an allowance for tech toys.
well , that was quite the documentary. so basically what u and max are implying is that … i’ll be back in ‘allowance’ territory after a few years of freedom ?
Enjoy it while it lasts! Once you get married and settle down you give up a lot of freedoms lol
You’d be lucky to have an allowance
oh…
Balcobomber25 is a miserable, rude, aged, grouchy, grumpy dick. Interjecting, arguing and being the pretentious “unbiased” know-it-all is like porn to him. You all very well know what that’s like, don’t you? There’s one in every office, or at a party, or on the subway – when you get old and you feel on higher moral grounds and a need to correct the world.
Angry much? Mohammed is my friend and I was joking around with him, which he knows. But I am sure he is thankful enough that you feel the need to stick up for him.
Naaah, no anger here – amateur trolls like you exist all over the internet, from places like Reddit all the way to GizChina. The irritating bit is that you’re a rather boring troll, unlike some trolls who are hugely entertaining (Pica, Weev). Like you said yourself, your age has caught on.
I was just having fun putting you in your place – all grown up and all. Your “reactionary” posts and the amount of time you spend on this site shows how much of a lovely life you have – It’s a pretty clear sign when one derives so much joy from commenting on Chinese phones online 😉
You two get a room.
The amount of time you spend commenting about the amount of time I spend on here is a pretty clear sign of how lovely your life is.
nothing … just a suggestion for meizu mx6.
nothing lol
ok , maybe games
Anything except RAM would ruin actual user experience with this SoC, I am even afraid that 4000 mAh battery as it is would weight to much but we will see.
i bet a 4k mAH battery wouldnt require u to be a body-builder to hold the phone with one arm , now would it ?
a small compromise for the added usage time !
It’s time for them to get a new design language
Probably won’t happen they have been using this same design language dating back to the original M6.
Oh Goooddd… just release 5 or less inch screen smartphone with proper HiFi audio hardware!!! Can’t be that hard, can it?
They may end up releasing a 5 inch Pro 5 mini, but the next MX6 will be 5.5 inches. That is where the current demand is.
why cant increase to 5.7 for better experience ?
5.7 is the size they used for Pro 5, I would imagine they are going to keep the same sizes for 6 and Pro 6. The two phones are too similar as it is they need some differentiating features besides SoC’s.
ohhh..
Como siempre meizu sorprende meizu la mejor marca china
