Mediatek have posted a statement saying that the Helio X10 chipset does not have WIFI problems and that environmental issues are to blame.
Last year when we reviewed the LeTV Le1 (X600) we later discovered the phone had WIFI issues. In our case an update to an experimental version of the ROM fixed the problem but not everyone has been so lucky.
Owners of the Xiaomi Redmi Note (2 and 3) and Meizu Metal have also been posting their frustration with glitchy WIFI performance on Chinese forums too. The issue doesn’t seem to affect everyone, but it has become widespread enough for Mediatek to make an official comment.

In the official announcement Mediatek don’t admit that there is an issue with their chip but say that environmental issues are to blame. As many users have other phones on hand with working WIFI, and complaints only occur during certain system updates, customers aren’t accepting Mediatek’s excuse.
If you are suffering the issue Mediatek’s solution is to ensure that your phone is updated to the latest firmware, and if this works we can assume a patch has been added to fix this none existent issue.
Is your Meizu MX5, Meizu Metal, Le1, Le1S, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 or Redmi Note 3 have poor WIFI performance? Or is it possible that the sheer number of X10 phones are the reason for the high WIFI complaints?

we reported them months ago, did you not see the links in the article? And for the Meizu and Redmi it is only recent updates that cause it. This is us reporting the news twice
Oh, well, really i was worried about redmi ones, just bought redmi 2 and I’m waiting to delivery here. Is really strange that recent updates cause problems, i hope don’t have such a bad luck. Thanks.

Yea i don’t know anyone with wifi issues for MX5 or Redmi. This is the first I’ve heard of it
I have had problems with my redmi note 3 after an update. However re-installing the update fixed this problem (might be due to some corrupted files)
Redmi 2’s real problem isn’t wifi, it’s the 1GB RAM (at least the 1GB version of it). The phone will be unusable after used a few weeks / month, just like Redmi 1S 1GB RAM. Dunno about the 2GB version.
If It’s software dependant o. Updates and what not then we can’t blame it on the chip.
My MX5 is up to date and I have no issues

I’m not that into programming, but if the problem comes and goes related to software updates or Rom updates then THERE YOU HAVE it it’s not the chip But random people getting corrupt roms/updates…
And no, I’m not being sarcastic. Just think about it. I read many forums and product reviews of the MTK-X10 related devices in order get an user experience idea (a good 300+ of them, Amazon, aliexpress, gsmarena, xdaDevs, Android authority etc)
But think about it, MTK makes hardware and the problems come and go software related ….
My MX5 had those problems too. That was the only reason i sold it.

Clash of clans. It will freeze the game some sort of and you will see a wifi icon, so you can see its not getting the data properly. Also during youtube movies, or other internet activity which costs a lott of data it seems like its not processing the data fast enough so there comes so hickup
Could be a problem with the game itself. A lot of games have connectivity issues. And WIFI doesn’t use mobile data.
Redmi note 2 – no issues from the beginning, currently on MIUI 7.1. stable.

The GPS is an old rant, thats not a talk of today. If you’re having GPS issues it means the manufactor, preferably cheaper ones like Elephone and Doogee etc. Use bad antennas wich is the cause of the bag gps.
Blame them not mediatek. My GPS on my Redmi Note 3 is instant and better than my Quallcomm powered Nubia.
GPS working perfectly on both Mediatek powered phone, Letv x500, and Huawei Honor 3C. Also, my friend’s Android One, powered by MT6582 have no problem with GPS.
The GPS on my brother’s Takee 1 works more accurate than the GPS on my Mi3 with Qualcomm SoC. Takee’s SoC is old, 6592, so I think there’s not a problem with Mtk.
I’m in a third world country, 3G is fine and fast on that phone too. Doesn’t have 4g antenna so I can’t tell how it works with LTE here.
GPS working properly here (Redmi Note 2). Better than SGS2 GPS that I was used to.

Happens to mine as well. Started happening after December 24th update (miuipro.ru). Redmi Note 2 TD working on band 7/Brazil. Every once in a while Whatsapp hangs/can’t reach server. Then I kill it (or the browser) and restarts properly.
If you are connecting to Whatsapp on Band 7 that is a cellular network not your Wifi. If it just happening with Whatsapp and not other apps, then it is a Whatsapp problem. Whatsapp is notorious for connectivity issues.
I meant that I had the TDD version of the Redmi Note 2. The problem doesn’t happen on 3G or 4G. Sorry if I was unclear.
But does it only happen on whatsapp?
Eventually happens with default browser and next browser. Pages take 30+ secs to load and then load fails.
Sounds more like a software issue with your phone.

Think it’s more the sheer number of MTK phones that are on the market. I have been talking to people all day with X10 phones (I have numerous friends that have them) no one has had any issues with wifi. WiFi could be affected from a variety of things from software to apps to environment to network problems. Often times when something goes wrong the Chip is the first thing blamed.

i guess the massive volumetric gain that mtk have achieved in terms of devices over the last year has made them enemies in the business …
Nothing seems wrong on my Letv x500, maybe I need to use it more often.
How is the battery on that bad boy ?
not really good, around 2-3 hours of screen on time depending on your usage. but it’s slim and nice to look at, unlike the bulky redmi note 3.
