Its something we have all wanted for a long time, but finally manufactures are giving us more and more internal memory to choose from, with the latest Asus Zenfone 2 offering up to 384GB!
In 2015 we saw more phone brands offer 64GB and even 128GB internal memory, but if even that’s not enough then what about 384GB?
The actual internal memory of the Zenfone 2 Deluxe is 256GB made up of two separate 128GB partitions, then adding a 128GB SD card to the phone you get a total of 384GB on board storage (and then a further 5GB of cloud storage with an Asus account).
Gizchina News of the week
A processor upgrade to an Intel Atom Z3590 2.5Ghz chipset is also worthy of mentioning, while the rest of the Zenfone 2 hardware remains the same as the original phone (5.5-inch FHD display, 4GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera etc).
Asus have given the Zenfone 2 Deluxe two luxury finishes to help the phone stand out. One version is a carbon backed model with red trim and the other a diamond pattern.
Veeeery tempting. But no Fingerprint scanner 🙁
I was thinking the same…
Well there isn’t a full happiness. 🙂
it is a 2014 system masquerading as a late 2015/early 2016 system. 22nm, no fingerprint scanner, lollipop OS.
Still, antutu scores put it on par with the Helio X10 (slightly higher, in fact), and the geekbench scores are also roughly the same (about 10% higher single core and 10% lower multicore).
Very good Zenfone…now don’t forget to add the keyboard and mouse along with the phone lol
lol 😀
and the wireless monitor
384GB… Wow that’s a lot of porn
except if you shot it yourself in 4K… then it’ll be only 16 hours of 4K homemade porn. 2 or 3 gangbangs et voilà, your memory is full !
Not with HEVC 😛
Hell ! Do you know any smartphone using HEVC to record 4K vids ?
The title is misleading, most people think RAM when the word memory is used.
Agreed it should be referred as storage

Haha, I would rather choose something with a better camera, fingerprint scanner and smaller bezels.
I’m personally enthralled by this phone. I just need my phone for my music and my collection is going well over 300GB.
Do you have unlimited data or a high data plan? If so you can upload most of your music to a number of apps for free and stream them. Google Play Music gives you room for 50,000 songs for free.
I wish I had.
I tried it while ago because in Korea, many telecom companies offer unlimited data from their wifi-zones which there are plenty of. It’s good if you live in a city but people like me living in a rural area can only use the service at home.
Give it just a bit of time. Right now 128GB microSDs are as low as 27$ (using the best deals in the US as a reference point) while 200GB cards still got a large premium. However, this year 3D NAND is ramping with some very large dies (capacity wise) and that will enable 256 GB microSDs at reasonable prices and 512 GB at a premium but not crazy premium. So just give it a bit of time and even if your needs go up, so will microSD capacities. It won’t take long before they reach a few TB and price per GB is getting significantly better every year.
For the internal storage, everybody would be better off if faster solutions are used, instead of larger capacities. Hynix, for example, has a UFS 2.0 solution that they claim can do 780MB/s and 160MB/s sequential
read/write, with random read/write at 32,000
IOPS and 17,000 IOPS. I’ll take 64GB of that over this 256GB eMMC any day.
Yeah I’ve noticed the huge price premium on 200gb micro SDs, almost a dollar per gigabyte.
Personally my use need slow but large storage devices. Only 4K capable device I have is my A7R, but even then I would probably never use it. I think most video cameras with insane data transfer bandwidth like RED cameras have options for SSD slots.
For internal i meant for the OS, apps and so on since NAND perf there has a very relevant impact on the experience.
As for 200GB microSDs seen some deals bellow 90$ but will get better. Actually just y-day Sandisk reported Q4 results and mentioned that they started shipping 3D NAND. They have a 256Gb(32GB) die with TLC and stacking just 8 of those gets them to 256GB,,if they do 16 dies ,that’s 512GB and i imagine we should see them launching such products very soon. NAND capacity and pricing is getting a lot better and soon enough we won’t worry about it anymore. A healthy chunk of internal and a very large microSD will be just great.

What a misleading title, and what a disappointment. I was celebrating the prospect of buying Vivo’s upcoming flagship with 6GB Ram, and then I saw this. Obviously, you need to learn the difference between what memory commonly refers to and what expandible storage refers to. I would have been the first customer of this phone if it had 384GB of RAM 🙂 I need it for heavy multitasking and gaming, but this has a shockingly poor processor as well…… not sure if this is a low-mid-end of mid-end device.
You actually though for a moment that it was 384GB ram?
Hey, not all of us can afford $10,000+ rack servers.
I would use it as RAM disk for my PC.
can’t be… only a gold coated phone would have 384GB RAM. Without the gold coating, 384GB RAM would be absolutely useless.
Failed to improve the camera is a deal breaker.
Not to mention the phone itself is fugly!
I don’t mind it but plays toward funky. I’d probably get black or oriental red colour to drop the attention aspect.
It’s not that ugly, but the chin is HUGE, I’m pretty happy with this phone, but there are several horror stories, and the SIM slots are utter crap.
I played around with one in an Asus store once, too bulky for me and I wasn’t a fan of the UI. I am surprised with hardware issues, Asus usually makes very good devices
I have one and its perfectly fine. No horror stories to report here.

heh, I need a new external SSD … if this has usb 3, it is perfect. 😉
USB 2 and 130/70 RW. You would be better off with a $60 1TB HDD
