Vivo are once again going for the next level and raising the smartphone bar confirming today the impressive processing and memory package in the coming Xplay 5.
Vivo will unveil the Vivo Xplay 5 on 1st March, and to build the excitement have been releasing teaser after teaser confirming some of the more interesting aspects of the new flagship phone.
Previous teasers had confirmed a borderless 2K display and curved display, however today things really get exciting with the confirmation that the Xplay 5 will not only run a Snapdragon 820 but a huge 6GB RAM too!
Gizchina News of the week
It’s exciting news to see a smartphone maker make the next step, but what will all that RAM be used for? There were rumours in the past that the new Vivo could be using some of it’s RAM for graphics only, but we are not sure if this is possible with the Snapdragon 820.
With what we know about the Vivo Xplay 5 we are sure the rest of the package is going to be every bit as exciting as the current specs.
well, we know that wont be a problem to handle 2k display 😛
Wow!!! This year is shaping up to be really interesting. So many options to choose from. Sometimes you likely miss the time when all you had to choose from was a Nokia 3310 and other phones lol
Man…. this is very exciting … looks like no one wants to leave any stone unturned to make it to be the top …. Bring it on …. Game is heating up …. 🙂
This phone have play service, multi language, and 800mzh lte??
-no, not natively
-maybe, probably not
-definitely not
Natively depends on the country you buy it in. If it is bought in China it won’t have it. But Vivo phones sold in other countries have Google Play.
Does they? I thought they sell only in china… Learnt something new!
Nope. They have stores in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand (where I buy mine from). I think they are even entering Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam this year.
Ok, I’ll be watching for the p9000 edge
What about watching for something worth your money? ?
If they are going for 6 gb and sd820, then I sincerely hope that they do a global launch with most of the basebands opened. Otherwise it would be the most retarded and expensive phone ever. (Except for Iphone)
The Helio P20 supports 6GB so we should see the midrange going there soon enough too.
I KNEW IT!!!
I kinda feel liket they’re stuffing their new phones with RAM just so they don’t need to give a damn about ROM optimisations … Hopefuly it’s just my paranoia.
Vivo does an excellent job with optimization no worries there.
will be overpriced….!
As are so many other high end phones.
Vivo is one of the few brands that IMO are worth the money. Until you own one it doesn’t make sense, but the level of refinement in a Vivo is amazing.
I was in a state of shock to see the SD 820 based LG G5 score a meager ~74,000 on AnTuTu v5. I wonder if any phone with SD 820 running at 2K can take the score about 85,000? This one has a 2K screen.
I want to buy it, but am nervous about the AnTuTu v5 score. 2016 is turning out to be a disappointment so far when it comes to my previous expectations of the SD 820 laughingly crossing 80,000 without any effort, but that hasn’t been the case so far.
I don’t want to wait another SoC generation to have the dream score become an uniform reality. Fingers crossed!
This is Antutu v5. v6 almost doubles the score G5 scores around 120000. S7 scores above 110000
Antutu (in general) is mostly useless though. Those are arbitrary numbers produced in an arbitrary manner. You cannot add oranges to apples, anymore you can add gpu to cpu performance.
Antutu could be relevant if instead of single score produced many seperate ones measuring the constituencies of a phone. That way we could at least have a rough idea of general performance.
Of course phones don’t do much heavy processing, so not even that would matter much. Things like RAM size and bandwidth, sustained performance, EMMC bandwidth as well as software optimizations are much more relevant to every-day experience…
le tv le max pro?
You really need to start looking past Antutu…
This phone will even destroy the brand new S7 and G5 when it comes to performance. lol
What about the “B”? “GB” means GigaByte, just the G is a little bit cryptic… Can someone knowing chinese confirm it’s about the amount of ram and not something else? (usually just “G” means something else, like “6th Generation”, but that wouldn’t make sense in this context I think).
However, I’m the one who always said that this year no one would use 6gb of ram… I’d love to be proven wrong! 😀
LOL. LPDDR is a memory module and I have seen just “G” in the past. Vivo isn’t a shady company like that.
Not saying they would do something like that, just saying I don’t know chinese so those other words could mean literally everything xD
LOL. Back to meetings for me! MWC is a whirlwind of excitement and emotions for me. Hopefully I get some more time on the floor tomorrow.
I guess for a geek the mwc is like a candy shop inside Santa’s village ?
For me right now it’s like a candy shop where most of the display counters are locked. Although I have been getting some behind the scenes hands on with a few of MSoft’s partners phones.
Speaking of MSoft’s partners phones, have u ran into the one coming from HP yet? I’m really looking forward to seeing your comments on this pls
The Elite? I have known about it for a few months now but wasn’t allowed to say anything, but I haven’t personally used one yet.
This is going to be a super good-looking beast that will make the LG G5 feel ashamed.
From what I have seen in my limited time here, the G5 is the least impressive device. I played around with it briefly (way too crowded) the design is just hideous, the UI is still ugly. From my limited time with both I prefer the camera on the S7.
I have a hands on exclusive coming with the Gionee S8, I may need a change of pants. A friend of mine who works for Blu is introducing me to the fine folks of Gionee.
Yeah but to have completely metal design and have replaceable battery is quite something. Not to mention it’s the first modular phone that will be available worldwide. I am actually quite impressed by it. Thou I think the Samsung phone will still be better at the end of the day.
It’s a nice idea though. But I guess the phone is horrible… lol
They ditched a lot of things that on the past build LG G series identity, for example: rear-mounted buttons, slight curved screen.
Saw some videos of LG G4 and G5, G4 is way more stylish. G5 looks innovative, but in terms of design, an unfinished thing.
I guess they should have launched two devices this year… a regular G5, and this one. Then everyone will look only to the innovative thing.
Your going to need that replaceable battery because the battery in it is tiny for what that phone offers. I would much rather have a non replaceable but bigger battery. Just in the few minutes I got to use one the battery level was falling fast.
Tell them who you are.
I’m sure they know your nickname already. Lol
You might get a lifetime gionee phones supply
Lol I won’t lie I’m running on fumes right now. I had 3 layovers this weekend to get to Barcelona, because flying direct from Boston apparently isn’t possible. But so far I am enjoying it, I only had an hour on the show floor but I was able to see a lot. I’m in closed door meetings the rest of the day with various Windows Phone vendors. But my Gionee love affair begins in two hours 😉
Agree about the G5.
I know they have been trying to do something different but there’s no excuse with those black borders thicker than old Elephones!
Battery life was not great either, in the ten minutes I held one and tests the camera out the battery life fell 10%. You’re going to need at least 2 batteries to make it through a full day with normal use.
Interesting, obviously they made the back like on the MEizu Metal where you don’t have those gaps because of the antennas.

Sadly 450€ is above my budget right now.
The only case where 6gb of RAM will be interesting for a smartphone is by running windows 10 and docking the phone to a monitor. Useless for android
Or Ubuntu.
Barring memory and battery leaks a 6GB phone is far faster than 3/4GB phones due to caching in ram (no loading time, probably ever).
I disagree that Windows makes better use of available RAM, that’s factually incorrect. I don’t know why is it so widespread over the Web.
I wish android media players (minix, etc) would start adding more RAM like this. Maybe my minix x7 has other issues, but bouncing between YouTube and Netflix and chrome on 2GB RAM is punishing…
better to have 4GB of RAM and 6000 MAh battery
true
This is so going to be my next phone, doubt I will ever need 6gb ram, but it can’t hurt;-)
Even if you don’t “need it”, android is going to use it, so I fail to see the problem.
Similarly with fast CPUs, they’re hardly needed, but if during a given task only 10% of CPU is used (instead of say 20%) it will certainly help your battery.
Apart from GPU, everything else is consequential on a phone. It goes like this RAM > EMMC> CPU >>> GPU for everyday experience
GPU >>> CPU > RAM > EMMC for high end games.
To make a long story short … your phone will be faster; do you *need* need it? Well, we only *need* sleep, food, water and oxygen … everything else is a luxury :p
I didn’t say I had a problem, quite happy if they put 10gb ram in it! Never have too much, but not convinced 99% of people world ever notice the difference between 3 or 6gb though.
Those that constantly swipe out background processes won’t notice a thing, the rest would notice a world of difference, especially gamers. Pretty much most of their apps would be cached so they would rarely see loading screens …
not enough AAA games on Android to use that much ram :/
which kinda sucks !
Where u been lately, not seen u on here. There’s no point having games on android that need that much ram when there are no phones with 6gb! Once more phones are released titles will slowly start trickling out.
yeah … been in and out of here due to staggering university work load coupled with a failing heat sink in my laptop :/
if they do manage to release something worthy of PC-quality gaming , it’ll definitely be huge !
Oh, that really makes me thinking. Should I get the vivo or mi5? I mean even on my Note Pro with 4GB Ram the Adroid ram leak was so bad that after a while you couldnt use it any more. so 6gb sure would be nice
Mi5 because you will be able to get battery case
Who buys a battery case? These things destroy the whole phone design. Rather go with powerbank, like the new slim one from Mi: https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5e29bd7d07c2088185d2af3cc9dea74180f90759bee32c0d587049973b53047d.jpg
