After tasting success shipping their devices with Windows, Chinese tablet makers are now shifting focus towards productivity laptops.
In the recent past, we’ve seen a tonne of new tablets come out which feature ‘hybrid’ designs, mostly borrowed from the Lenovo Yoga series.
The Voyo VBook V1 is the newest of the lot. There’s a very recognisable pattern in these new tablets; they’re all hybrid, have Intel processors (most often the Z8300), and are fairly affordable.
In this case, the VBook V1 is just over $200.
Gizchina News of the week
It comes with: an Intel Cherry Trail Z8300 1.44GHz quad-core processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM, a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800p display, 8000mAh battery, and a 2 mega-pixel front camera for video calls and the like.
It actually looks like one of the better offerings that have made their way on to GizChina in the recent weeks… mainly because of the 4GB RAM. If there was something I could change about the tablet, it would most likely be the display resolution. 1920 x 1080p would be more like it according to some, perhaps.

It’s been all “Inspire” lately more than “Inovate”, so I am not so surprised 🙂 But I am sure it will have some fans tho.
More than one month using Voyo A1 Plus Ultimate. Compared to this, the only one difference is 11,6inch display with 1920×1080. Price was $275 shipped from Europe. There are few things I am still fighting with, but For that price I would recommend this. Definitely!!

The return of netbooks. IMO that’s a sad development, probably it’s laptops comeuppance for keeping the prices way too high for too long. But really , atom processors, single channel ram, practically no external ports , low resolution … ought not to cut it.

Atom is so tired at this point, luckily AMD’s Stoney Ridge is arriving soon.Not a direct competitor, kinda like SD650 vs 8xA53, higher power and price but more appealing. Will cover the gap between Atom and low end dual core Skylake – there is a big perf and price gap there.
Well it does kinda stand out. 2gb 1080p tablets for 100 to 150 are pretty common right now. But I agree, 4gb is minimum for a usable win10 pc. This one has a ridiculuous screen, and although they call it a hybrid it doesnt look detachable to me…
Looks like a flip not detachable. As for 4GB, that’s pretty standard now on new devices like this one (not android tabs), as RAM prices are very good. Screen wise, there is some 10$ cost difference between HD and FHD, so not difficult to go FHD but this model aims to be cheaper.
But my main point was AMD Stoney Ridge as it should target sub 400$ laptops at up to 15W and will arrive this year.

I know there are a bunch of people that would like a physical keyboard on their android devices. That goes for that PASSPORT device as well.
To the PRIV, then give it a back fingerprint reader to fix the empty space some people say some have in the back, and upgrade front camera and upgrade the speaker AND either an Exynos or an Sd820 geeez even a MtK-X20 could do a better trick that the 808 (yeah I know is a good processor but if it is going to go main sail it needs to have everything top shelf (from either companies/suppliers) to claim that kind of price….)

I think most companies are going to wait for the long term sales numbers of the Priv before offering something similar. Many of the initial sales were from long time Blackberry fans who would have bought anything with the BB name on it (like they did with the Z series). If it continues to sell well you will see competitors.
I would have saved my money for it but the SoC didn’t truly convince me and it turned out to be good according to reviewers and so but would be ending my saving about this time then and still having to wait for those thing I said in the 1st comment.
…(there are some bad reviews but those did not update their devices, even when its been out for more than 4 months and about 5 updates have been released)

I’m SO waiting for something like that, even before priv came out… It could be an hell of a device because it wouldn’t be slim anyway, so they can feed us with a big camera sensor and a fat battery… Couple it with a decent soc (this year the best choices look sd650 and 652 to me) and front facing speakers, and it’s a total beast!
It already has front facing speakers, but not loud enough. The Priv is around $700 USD so for a SoC I either want top one from either of the 3 for raw power to play “”angry birds”” ;-). But you are on the same track as I am.
I was talking about an hypothetical phone from whatever brand, not about the priv specifically, thus my point about front facing speakers… That BB sure is overpriced (like every BB phone), so yeah, at that price point I too would want a top notch soc… But at a 200-250$ price tag I would gladly stick with a sd650 device having all of those other specs ?

im hoping to see MORE chinese companies jump into ACTUAL pc market and make ACTUAL laptops and PCs … Xiaomi are rumored to be making something with a 4th Gen i7 , a GTX 760m and 8GB RAM .. for a very affordable rate. all quite enough for RESPECTABLE gaming at mid-high gaming at 30+ FPS stable !
now if more companies could start thinking like this , they could have a whole new market to wage an economical war on ! think how interesting and exciting would THAT be instead of half-assed attempts at making psuedo-tablet mockups !

It weights less then detachable tablets of the same size. 1.7 pounds. Don’t have to play with resolution and DPI scaling, sounds good to me.
