Mystery 4.3-inch Xiaomi phone with Snapdragon 820 sighted

Arguably one of the best Xiaomi phones, the Xiamoi Mi2 was a 4.3-incher, and it could be that Xiaomi are going back to that smaller size in the wake of the latest iPhone launch.

A photo of a mystery Xiaomi phone with 4.3-inch display has been revealed on Chinese tech sites today, which according to reports is Xiaomi’s response to the launch of the new iPhone.

The photo is only a partial one, but we can just make out that there is a physical home button on the chin like the Xiaomi Mi5 where we expect a fingerprint scanner to be located.

Gizchina News of the week

Rumours are the phone will go on sale in June for around 1799 Yuan and that the device will boast a 720p HD display, 13 mega-pixel rear camera (No OIS), 3GB RAM, 32GB memory and a 1.8Ghz Snapdragon 820 chipset.

With those specs, the size and the pricing, it is easy to see the similarities between the new phone and the Xiaomi Mi2 phone from years ago. The Xiaomi Mi2 had the same size and resolution display and was such a great device that I know people now who still use it.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one, but in the mean time what do you make of it?

I would jave taken the Mi5 camera with a SD652 and 720p or 1080p rather than a worse camera and SD820.

      For a 4.3 inch 720p display 1400 isn’t that small.

Looks bigger than 4.3 in that persons hand. But I think we all saw this coming when Apple released the SE.

That’s a cropped photo of Mi5. (http://www.stintup.com/2016/02/24/xiaomi-presenta-mi4s-mi5-e-mi5-pro/) Possibly another fake.

You know, I wish Xiaomi would break out from feeling the need to copy all of Apple’s ideas when it comes to device design (MiPad) and software (MiOS) because they make some really good hardware packed into a nice package with competitive pricing. I feel if Xiaomi would break out from the mould and do their own thing they could surprise the smartphone industry with something new.

It would probably be even better if people would break out from feeling Xiaomi is copying all of Apple’s ideas since the opposite is true. Just take a look at the latest “innovative” update to iOS. Night Shift just came out but Night Shift = Reading Mode that came out half a year ago on MIUI.

So fact is Xiaomi is doing their own thing and has been surprising the industry with new things for a while. Even Samsung copied the curved glass back of the Mi Note. The only thing is the two companies keep promoting these copied designs as “innovative” and things Xiaomi “copied from them”

I don’t know what company came out with it first, but TBH Amazon has had this feature (called Blue Shade mode) since the release of FireOS 5.0, which is just a skinned version of Android. I am not saying Xiaomi copied that feature with MIUI, but it is funny how the iTards are raving about it like that is the most innovative thing ever, when Apple clearly stole or borrowed from that idea. One thing MIUI did first software wise that now the rest of Android is looking to adopt the same UI feature is the removal of the app drawer altogether. You have to admit that the MiPad (original) looks like an iPad and an iPhone 5c had a baby though.
