Affordable Honor 5C released with metal body and Kirin 650

Honor 5C

The budget “C” lineup of the Huawei Honor finally got the long awaited addition with the arrival of the new Honor 5C. While keeping extremely competitive price the phone offers quite some bang for the buck and finally fixes the LTE shortcomings of its predecessor.

At first glance the Honor 5C doesn’t look like a budget phone at all, full metal body from the aluminum alloy with the brushed metal design while still reasonably thick with 8.3mm. The phone is going to be available in three color variants – gold, grey, silver – and for the first time the Honor brand logo is present not just on the back cover, but on the front too. All in all quite a premium look, especially considering the price tag, but we will get to that in a second.

First let’s take a look at the hardware, because the new octa-core processor Kirin 650 clocked at 2 GHz and built on the 16nm process (FinFET Plus) packs quite some punch and hopefully the Mali-T830MP2 GPU too. Alongside the processor we have 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of eMMC 5.1 expandable storage and finally some 4G with Cat.6 LTE support. Battery capacity is 3000 mAh so right in the current norm.

Gizchina News of the week

The 5.2-inch FHD display looks decent with reasonably thick bezels, at least judging from the pictures. The rear camera should be 13 Mpix shooter (some sources are putting 16 MPix there, but our opinion based on the TENAA certification is different) with slightly protruding lens and the front one offers 8 MPix. Honor 5C will have EMUI 4.1 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the rear fingerprint scanner will be equipped with new 2.0 fingerprint standard promising fast unlock up to 0.5s and supporting fingerprint payments.

Honor 5C will be available starting May 5th and the price is very decent, the basic version is 899 yuan (138$), while the dual 4G version gets slightly bumped up to 999 yuan (154$). All things considered the Honor 5C is shaping up to be up of the most appealing phones for the budget conscious customers so watch out for it.

This looks cheap and nice but I want to buy a P9 or P9 plus, anyone knows how to get one or the other cheaper than in UK and with no Vat taxes?
